He was actually a stellar student. The whole “bad student who flunked math” thing comes from a Ripley’s believe it or not..which, if you didn’t know, isn’t the most thoroughly researched publication.

Yep. His school switched the grading scale, so it looked like he’d gotten horrible grades, while he was still top of his class.
I’ve been incredibly pissed since I first saw that.
Actually he was an excellent student but he was bored. So he did act up somewhat. He actually told those stories. The bad student thing was actually a complete misunderstanding. The rumor was he had a learning disability. In fact quite the opposite. However, he was a class clown, pretty much his whole life.
