Ok, just what’s “bad taste” about saying that you can stand someone’s “singing” as long as you can’t see or hear them?

One time, I was out for a few beers with some friends in one bar of the pub. There was a karaoke contest in the other bar. One woman chose to do “Pearl’s a Singer”, and had got that far (sounding like a drunk, off-key foghorn) when the patrons in the bar we were in yelled en mass and unscripted “AND YOU’RE NOT!!
