There seems an awful lot of resentment here towards the couple in question. I don't really get why...from the mix of responses I get the impression that they can do nothing right. They adopted = good. But they adopted 3rd world children = bad. They hire nannies (the jury seems to be out on whether that's good or bad) They hire nanniea to the ratio of 1:1 = bad? They are dispised for creating a non cute baby? (brearing in mind that most supermodels/A-list beauties started as the 'ugly duckings' (adult beauty uses different parameters...how many beautiful child stars grow in to beautiful adults?).
I don't know this couple personally, but I'm aware they've invested much time and effort in promoting 3rd world charities, and raising awareness about certain ecological/social issues. I'm also aware that Jolie has long been in the habit of donating a percentage of her earnings to charity.
I'm failing to grasp the crime of this couple and why they elicit such hostile and personal responses.
But to end, I will say that there is no model of a "normal" family unit, and that practically ALL families are dysfunctional to one extent or another. Charity not only begins at home, but in the mind.

I'd rather you rephrase the "People really need to focus on helping out Americans first" to something more fitting...
That aside, its true, people are always going for "foreign" children from poor counties. That's because what you see on television is never of local struggle. People only see the starving Ethiopian children...
And then on the other hand.... The entire US isn't exactly a cesspit with no food or an enormous lack of medical expertise or education.
Some people(like Madonna, imo) just plain exploit adoption and do it because "that's what cool celebs do". But looking at Angelina Jolie's situation, she has a true love for helping children, be they in Malibu or Ban Pong. I say let them make their choice without strangers judging them for it.

WOW late long comment is late and long.. haha, sorry

My reasons for judging them are that I'm sure they have an unstable home. You can't give your attention to that many children, especially if you're a movie star. Just look at the typical life of someone in Hollywood- are you going to convince yourself they're the Jones'? They're not. Having that many kids and rushing them off to nanny's sounds like these kids are in a glorified foster home. Yes, we'll take care of you- look at all your brothers and sisters- where's your mommy? Somewhere else. Go enjoy your new toys. Smile for the camera! It's typical knowledge that kids raised in the Hollywood lifestyle grow up to be crazy.

"Brangelina" have their issues but as adoption is accepted in this country, I don't know why they should be held to a different standard than any other adoptive parents. Also? If they were low-income but famous, people would be all over them for having kids they couldn't afford. They can afford them, so now they're bad for hiring nannies. Any of you who have kids know full well what a full-time job they are, especially that young--they're a Herculanean task even for the most dedicated parents. If you would enlist the help of friends or family for your own kids, don't blame these two for seeking paid help.

That said: Why does America so uncritically and unconditionally accept adoption as a social good? If the only kids who were ever adopted were orphans with no extended family, or abuse victims who would die or be permanently damaged if they stayed with their families of origin, it would be one thing. Believe it or not, neither description fits the vast majority of children who are adopted. You're more likely to languish in foster care your entire childhood if you're an abuse survivor--virtually no prospective adoptive parents want to be bothered with your "issues." And most surrendering parents are economically, culturally, or socially coerced into giving up their children. Believe me: there are almost NO baby factories out here who woke up one day and decided to conceive just for some poor widdle infertile rich b***h who put her career first and waited too long to have kids. Our worlds simply do not revolve around such people--we have lives and dreams of our own, thanks.

I'll tell you why people are more likely to adopt foreign children. It's easier to fudge the rules, easier to bully the surrendering parents and easier to lie to the kid about where they come from. There are too many laws in the United States protecting surrendering parents and as far as I'm concerned even those don't go far enough. When I can read an article in a LIBERAL magazine by an adoptive parent asking "Did I steal my child?" that she adopted from Latin America, you know something is wrong. But it's the elephant in the living room and no one will talk about it. They'd rather badmouth the surrendering parents, particularly the mothers, as being bad people (because otherwise they would have "deserved" to keep their children).

Meanwhile, to accept help from the social safety net is to admit to being a failure and a parasite, and it doesn't help enough in any case. The Cadillac-driving "welfare queen" is largely myth--those who do drive nice cars are likely dealing, or the Cadillac is old (and therefore a crappy car), or someone felt sorry for the person. TANF doesn't pay enough to keep body and soul together, and you have to make an indentured servant out of yourself to "earn" it. Medicaid is a joke. The food stamp program is designed to keep you in poverty. We refuse to take care of FAMILIES in this country and then we think it's "helping" to break those families up. Our priorities are seriously screwed.

“Brangelina” have their issues but as adoption is accepted in this country, I don’t know why they should be held to a different standard than any other adoptive parents. Also? If they were low-income but famous, people would be all over them for having kids they couldn’t afford. They can afford them, so now they’re bad for hiring nannies. Any of you who have kids know full well what a full-time job they are, especially that young–they’re a Herculanean task even for the most dedicated parents. If you would enlist the help of friends or family for your own kids, don’t blame these two for seeking paid help.

You’re more likely to languish in foster care your entire childhood if you’re an abuse survivor–virtually no prospective adoptive parents want to be bothered with your “issues.” And most surrendering parents are economically, culturally, or socially coerced into giving up their children. Believe me: there are almost NO baby factories out here who woke up one day and decided to conceive just for some poor widdle infertile rich b***h who put her career first and waited too long to have kids. Our worlds simply do not revolve around such people–we have lives and dreams of our own, thanks.

I’ll tell you why people are more likely to adopt foreign children. It’s easier to fudge the rules, easier to bully the surrendering parents and easier to lie to the kid about where they come from. There are too many laws in the United States protecting surrendering parents and as far as I’m concerned even those don’t go far enough. When I can read an article in a LIBERAL magazine by an adoptive parent asking “Did I steal my child?” that she adopted from Latin America, you know something is wrong. But it’s the elephant in the living room and no one will talk about it. They’d rather badmouth the surrendering parents, particularly the mothers, as being bad people (because otherwise they would have “deserved” to keep their children).

Meanwhile, to accept help from the social safety net is to admit to being a failure and a parasite, and it doesn’t help enough in any case.
If they'd had all those kids biologically, is that collecting too?

I have a lot of philosophical issues with the adoption industry, but if someone is going to have a lot of kids it might as well be a person of means, I guess.

The kids are theirs legally, so there'd be a custody arrangement the same way there is with biological kids. Not that I necessarily think these two would split. I figure it's about a 50-50 chance at this point...

Yes, and adoption is one of the ways the haves look down at the have-nots. The poor in America have historically been seen as a source of children for the childless rich. I hate seeing people trump it as some great institution. It's only great if the child in question is an orphan and has no family. I suspect adoption has waned in popularity because adoptive parents are not allowed to bully the poor into giving up their kids anymore, and are expected to be honest with the kids they adopt about where they come from. Whereas, if you economically coerce some third-worlder who doesn't even speak English, it's a lot easier and they live in another country and are dirt-poor so they will never, ever come hunt you down.

Cynical? Why, yes. American FAMILIES need help, not just American children. If we didn't have this pervasive cultural concept that the poor are failures and that seeking help is wrong, I wouldn't have lost one of my own children and he wouldn't have to be growing up without his mom. I'm not a drug addict, I'm not a criminal, I just got really unlucky. And I am no less worthy of help than someone under the age of 18.

What does it take to keep the Jolie-Pitt household running smoothly? A fleet of cars and a half-dozen nannies, for starters.

“We’ve provided them with more than 20 Volkswagens while they’re here in Berlin,” Mya Walters, a public-relations manager for the car company, told Life & Style magazine.

Yeah, I judge them for everything, because they're the two biggest phonies out there. Everything about them is smug and self-serving! So they adopted, so what? I know a lot of people who adopt and don't congratulate themselves. People are starting to get tired of them and their act, I certainly am. They collect children, they don't adopt them. And my friend in NYC who works at the school Maddox briefly attended had nothing good to say about the Jolie-Pitts. They're pretty twisted, and they don't deserve praise.
Seriously, we're going to judge them for adopting children?! If they have the money and love to provide for them, what the hell is wrong with that?! Sure they have nannies to help, but it isn't correct (as one poster mentioned above" that each child has a nanny. From all available sources these children seem happy, loved and very well taken care of - what the hell is wrong with that?!

I also take issue with the fact that kids who are moved around a lot are somehow unhappier or at risk compared to children who stay in one place their whole lives. Have you ever heard anybody say this of so-called army brats? The whole point of being pro-family (as so many supposedly pro-family people seem to forget) is that as long as it works for them, who the eff are you to judge?!
