Just jumping in: U2 made cult music. Doesn’t mean they made good music. They play 4/4 beats on $135K-worth amplifiers. That’s about the only thing interesting. Bono fits well in the category of “I got money, I brag about giving much of it to famished children in africa but really don’t give much and don’t really care anyway” kind of douche.

He fled from income taxes, he’s a douche.
He’s got an ego probably as large as the Stade de France, and gives life lessons to others who’re more good-natured than him. This alone requires punching in the mouth. For being a prick.

I don’t care if those are just friends of his and his wife took the pics or his mistresses with wife’s approval(she’s not exactly forthcoming with any objections to the pics). With everyone desperately watching the rich and famous for scandals, you’d think he’d be a little more discrete about where these were posted.

With regard to the taxes thing, he didn’t leave because of that. I forget how that went down, but I think the refusal to pay up is in protest to something; not how the taxes are spent, but Ireland’s stance on some issue. I’d ask him but, frankly, it’s no one’s business but his.

I don’t care about a persons intentions when they do good. I care that they do good. The person who gives $1000 to ‘Feed the Children,’ for instance, because he thinks it’s good press has done more good, and made the world a better place than the person who really feels sorry for starving children but doesn’t do anything.

I completely agree with you, chimmeychango. i like and admire bono, but truly, even the opinion i have is just that: an opinion. i don’t have the authority to judge whether or not someone has good intentions. also discrediting bono and his work because of these obviously tongue-in-cheek photos is ad hominem and has nothing to do with what he stands for as far as charity work is concerned. besides, one can’t be serious all the time — you gotta have some fun and live it up every once in a while. life’s too short, and hell, if I was a rock star, I’d be having fun too!
