They never did find his body, and he never had a portrait appear. So I’m still firmly convinced that Snape did in fact totally survive.

*shrugs* Read it. Wasn’t a fan. Didn’t pay much attention, so many people died it was hard to keep track. My mistake.
Wow, bearcats, you really must not have paid attention, because a large part of the last bit of the book comes from Snape’s death (he gives his memories up to Harry precisely because he knows he’s dying, and will have no other way to give Harry the info he needs to defeat Voldemort once and for all – and also to explain why he had such a problem with the kid.)
And yeah, I can figure out a way to keep Snape alive. Hermione showed an ability to cast healing spells. And surely she and Harry should have been snart enough to check his pockets for healing potions and bezoars, which, if Snape was as smart as he had previously displayed himself to be, he would have been carrying on him. I think Rowling dropped the ball on that one (and didn’t really understand quite what she had created). Yes, it was dramatic, and all, but totally unnecessary and caused a big thorn in the side of many fans. There’s even a “Save Snape” petition at gopetition.com (see if I can find it again) that is still being signed, in hopes that the last movie will correct this. Hey, they butchered most of the other movies horribly, so why not save Snape?
I really wasn’t paying much attention when I read it. Like I said, I didn’t like it that much, but I had been reading them all since the first (obviously) and didn’t want to leave one book unfinished. Maybe one day, when I get my hands on the book again, I’ll read it, but until then I’m left with broken memories of what was written.

NO, Voldemort didn’t use the killing curse on Snape. I had Nagini bit him. That the only reason Snape had time to give him memories to Harry. (I just finished re-reading this a couple of days ago, so I remember well.)

Still, the dude plays evil so very well – a measure of a good actor (well, to me anyway) is one where your belief in the character they are portaying is so strong that you are no longer able to distinguish reality from fantasy. In other words, you see the guy walking down the street and you have the urge to smack the fool.
