Um, funny, but wrong country. Power Rangers were created by Americans.

    • Boris says:

But inspired by decades of Japanese Cartoons

      • LadyWhaiyvern says:

Wrong again! It was created from “Super Sentai.” Actually these “decades of Japanese Cartoons” spawned from “Super Sentai” and “Tokusatsu.” The Father of Japanese Anime created the first “Super Sentai” team- Go Ranger in the late 1970s.

    • Nekuth says:

actually Power Rangers is made from a Japanese show called Super Sentai, the series being Zyuranger

however, Lord Zedd was a Power Rangers creation, so is American

      thank you :)

    • BealzesBud says:

According to Wikipedia, parts of the Power Rangers are dubbed cuts from the Japanese tokusatsu Super Sentai Series.

      • Jess says:

Yeah, all of the fight scenes and bad guy scenes were dubbed. The only part of the show with original American scenes were the scenes with the good ole ‘wholesome’ American teenagers. You know… the black guy who played the black ranger and the Asian chick who played the yellow ranger… *sigh* I miss the days when I was young and naive and totally missed the subtext.

    • Jess says:

No…. no not at all. The non-fighting scenes were shot with American actors to Americanize the show. All of the fight scenes and bad guy scenes were dubbed from the Japanese version of the show. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Rangers

A quick Google search would have told you that.

    • LadyWhaiyvern says:

Wrong, it was originally created by the Japanese in the late 1970s as a live action show. It’s genre is known as “Super Sentai” and is still being produced to this day. Every year it has been a different theme/team/villain/etc. Saban brought the show over to the States and “American-ized” it. Thus, the American actors, Zordon, Alpha, etc. Saban was notorious for bringing “Tokusatsu” shows over to the US. Stock footage from the Japanese series is still being used, thus included morphed fight scenes and zord fights. Everything else, is filmed over with the American actors.

      • The Bob says:

Actually, all of you are wrong. It was created by Joseph Stalin in the late 50s, and then developed by Soviet Scientists after his death. They designed it to subliminally hide Soviet Propaganda to raise a new army after the ‘collapse’ of the Soviet Union. The adults were unaware, fooled by the show’s craziness and kookiness. The Americans hit back with a show called ‘Sesame Street’.

    • anjaflower says:

Power Rangers was not “created by Americans” or merely “inspired” by Suupa Sentai; Americans took Suupa Sentai episodes and replaced all the character-oriented scenes with new footage using Western actors. They just kept the fighting, riddonk monsters, etc.

For a taste of the extent of this lowbrow pop deliciousness, go to YouTube and search “JAKQ.” They’ve been doing this stuff a while.

  2. cyclonic says:

Far from the strangest thing actually.

And no, I couldn’t give a rats if i’m first.

  3. Tempestates says:

What is the strangest thing Japan gave us? No srsly, I wanna know

  4. RiderLeangle says:

This would be funny except for one thing, Lord Zedd was never in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Hes all Saban’s creation.

  5. LadyWhaiyvern says:

It’s too bad that this is from the 3rd season of “Power Rangers”. In that season, both villains were played and voiced by American actors. The only season to feature the horribly dubbed Rita, was the 1st season after they realized the mistake they cast an American actress to play Rita in seasons 2-3, beyond, and the movies. However, she was still voiced by the same voice actress as the 1st season. Lord Zedd, was completely created for the American version and was never featured in the Japanese Sentai series. He was created to replace the main villain from “Dai-Ranger” where they took there second season footage from. After the mishap in the 1st season with the Japanese Rita (Bandora) footage, all the main villains since then have been created and played by American actors. The only exclusion to this was “Zeo” because the original Japanese villains were rubber suit robots.

Long time fan of both PR and Super Sentai! XD

    • harpdevil says:

Hey LadyWhaiyvern, do you visit the TV-Nihon forums? They’re the people that sub Sentai, its a nice little community going on there. If you haven’t looked it up before come join myself and RiderLeangle :P

  6. Paul says:

This was my favorite show when I was younger. I remember my mom forced me to choose between this and either VR Troopers of Big Bad Beetle Borgs because she didn’t want me seeing too much violence on television. Still glad I went with this.

  7. adam antichrist says:

now i get why the new nostalgia site came about
look at all these bogans who will spend time arguing about the origins of a crap tv show!

  8. Unit4 says:

I must say… compared to some of the wonderful things Japan has given the world… Power Rangers wasn’t even CLOSE to the strangest… Though for some reason, I can’t think of any real great strange things Japan has given except some odd electronics and awesome pranks and games… oh, and anime, but I don’t think I’ll get into those now, though they may top any of the others if you pick the right one…

  9. Fatzilla says:

It was only good when they were still using dinosaur zoids. The rest was rubbish.

…not that I’ve seen it for years mind you. ;)

  10. anonymous says:

Power Rangers…. Oh how I miss the good old days.

  11. TG says:

    Power Rangers?
Wait! You mean this isn’t “Iron Chef: The Hallowe’en Challenge”?

  12. Poodleinacan says:

    0:35 ….a garbage can……An ultimate weapon of stink maybe…
