It’s amazing how a minister in a red cardigan can make after-school specials cool. His messages embraced simplicity and gave kids in the worst situations hope in the time when it was still OK to be Christian on TV. God Bless you, Mr. Rogers. Rest in Peace.

As someone who was an adult when he went on the air I found him heartwarming if a bit simplistic. but then, his audience wasn’t 30-year-olds. Eddie Murphy’s satire of him on Sat. Night Live only helped accentuate the desperate need for civility in this society. And that was how many years ago? The world at large would be a better place to take a page from Mr. Rogers’ book.

As someone who grew up with this show and many other children’s educational programs that simply aren’t matched by anything on television today (Reading Rainbow, Mr. Wizard, and 3-2-1 Contact to name a few) let me just say God bless Fred Rogers, and I am still honored to be his neighbor. Never has there been a better show for children of all ages than his.

I find it sad that people can’t believe there is a good, kind-hearted person out there.

There was as an interview with him some years back, and they wanted to see how long it took for somebody to say “Thank you” to him as soon as he left his door. 13 seconds.
I liked Mr. Rogers, because He liked me just the way I was.

I heard the character of Jack Bauer was based on Rogers’ experiences with the CIA. But the story that he cut off a Bulgarian agent’s head is apocryphal. The head came off in an accident when Rogers captured the guy.
