Just think, if the old greats had played without putting junk into their bodies that slowed them down, the new “greats” wouldn’t be able to touch them even with steroids. Buncha pansies.
Except those old records are all broken by the new guys who are using steroids.
that’s impossible to say, and very unrealistic. steriods are the new level playing field. they not only increase your speed and strength, but your reaction time as well.
The point he was making was that the old greats put stuff in their bodies that just slowed them down and made them weaker, and if they didn’t do that, they may be on par with today’s ‘roid ragers.
An a related but off-kilter subject, it is true that steroids are the new standard, which is really sad. Any kid who wants to grow up to be a baseball great (or professional body builder) will have to destroy his body using steroids.
Not only that, but some growth formulas like GHB (liquid ecstasy) are highly addictive and can ruin anyone’s life down a path of drug abuse. It’s really scary that these are the role models today.
You’d be surprised just how many of those guys were loaded on amphetamines, coke and whatever other drugs they thought would help them. The drug culture in sports isn’t new, it’s been around as long as there were sports.

…and crappy movies / music / “news.” But seriously, those old players were way better, the fact that the babe’s home-run record was only RECENTLY broken by a guy that was completely INUNDATED with steroids in his system really says something, I mean, how long did the babe’s record stand, like 70 years or something?
I would love to know where you people are reading that Babe Ruth abused his family…he barely even saw his first wife and his second wife actually kept HIM in line. Sure, he was a cheater, but not an abuser.

Joebakb said the biggest issue with babe ruths record. While he was playing he had fields with fences much shorter then most high schools have today. All the fields of past had fences with a distance less then 325… although the center field distance on some of these fields were huge they were not cleared for every hr. For example the polo grounds had a distance of 247 in the corners. I was able to hit that far when i was 12. Also the pitchers did not through as hard as they do today either with less pitch selection was much easier to hit a hr. Babe Ruth is a great but not that great when he is really looked at, and steriods just level the playing field
