  1. Jack Squat says:

    I laughed.

Although I’ve never had a problem with Vista, just the computer that it’s on.

    • Czernobog says:

Here’s the thing, if your computer can run all the applications you use (and for many users that amounts to browser, office, media player of choice, and maybe photoshop) and yet struggles with the OS, then the problem is with the OS, not the hardware.

      • TJ says:

Nope. You have to realize that an OS is a type of application (really a bundle of many applications). If you don’t need or want Vista then don’t get it. If your computer can’t handle it, then don’t get it. But don’t complain about Vista when the problem is your hardware (or even your decision to get vista in the first place). I have a system that can handle Vista and love it. To me it’s a huge step up from XP, but if I had a system that couldn’t really handle it I wouldn’t feel that way.

        • Call_Me_K says:

And what happens when you buy a brand new piece of hardware? Most new equipment in the typical consumer venues (i.e. Best Buy , Circuit City) come with it, no option.

          • Czernobog says:

            This.

Also, Microsoft has a history of doing their best to phase out old Operating systems. New products are rarely backward-compatible.

Not that it’s a problem with Vista itself, I just think there’s something conceptually wrong with an OS (and it is the OS itself, and the GUI, not just the stuff that comes bundled with it) that requires more resources then the applications one would expect to run on it.

            • Munkle says:

Microsoft still support DOS applications running on Vista, and backwards compatability is always a priority for them – in fact Win7 will support even more legacy apps than Vista.

        • Outback Jon says:

You should realize that an OS is NOT a “type of application”. It is simply (supposed) to be a series of common instructions that allow applications to work with the hardware. I’ve used Vista. It’s crap. Pretty crap, but still crap. An operating system should have minimal requirements from the system, allowing the applications (which is what you are really using anyway) as much system resources as possible.

          • i_says says:

            @ outback jon
you’re wrong on a number of counts there.
an OS is in fact a special application that has elevated permission level (ring 0). the “series of common instructions” is called the instruction set, and applications generally don’t use it.

That being said, I have also used vista and it takes up next to no resources on my computer (besides hard drive space) compared to things like firefox or any game newer than ’99. if you purchased a computer in the last 4 years that cannot run vista and you paid more than like 500 bucks for it, you got ripped off bad.

the only thing it uses much of is ram, and have you seen the price of ram these days? you can get 2 GB for less than 50 bucks at my local computer store, which is more than enough.

if you’re that concerned about performance get gentoo, compile with full optimization for your archetecture and only add in the components that you need (ie: don’t get a window manager).

      • Jack Squat says:

To clarify, the problems I have are that the speakers went out and my screen has lines going across it. Guess that just happens when a laptop falls a few dozen times.

College life is not good for technology.

        • GasWeasel says:

          Neither are irresponsible students.

          • Jack Squat says:

I’ll admit that I could be more careful, but most of the preventable damage comes from me carrying it around relatively unpadded in my messenger bag and not gently setting it down.

            Under “beyond my control”…
I’ve had it pulled off a table/chair arm several times by someone tripping over the power cord, it hitting the ground in my messenger bag twice by the strap breaking at the swivel, a book tossed on it six times (by someone else), and it sat on 3 times when someone didn’t see it laying on the couch next to me. Some bad connections on a screen aren’t too bad considering.

The speakers went out before most of this, but they work perfectly in troubleshooting mode on the BIOS (and drivers aren’t the problem, because they used to work when the screen was closed)…go figure.

          • Robert says:

That’s a really ignorant comment to make.

            • Call_Me_K says:

How so? He started out with “I haven’t had any problems with Vista, just my computer” then elaborated on what his problems were. Last I checked, in the free world there were no laws against being somewhat careless with your laptop. And I have yet to see him blame anyone else for something they aren’t responsible for.

      • Cookies! says:

        Huge Comp-talk FTL, Besides… Rofl

    • MaestroKyle says:

Me too, not one problem ever.

  2. Call_Me_K says:

That’s like, a small copy machine… or a fax machine or office printer. Not a computer. Blah

  3. LikesLSDalot says:

glad to see other people agree.

  4. izdatrite says:

I didn’t know it was possible to install Vista on office printers…

    • Call_Me_K says:

I didn’t know it was possible to install Vista on a computer!
(Drum lick, cymbal crash, applause sign on)

But yea, that’s what I was getting at, dude(ette?)

  5. Ben says:

WTF does that statement even mean?
Also, like others have said, what does vista have to do with a printer?

  6. factory says:

Quit Vista! Dammit, feels better now on Mac OS X, but still can’t score women :(

  7. kashmir says:

I’ve been running Vista for over a year and so far, things are just fine.

    Then again, I didn’t put it on a printer…..

  8. bandai says:

I never had a problem with vista. Maybe it’s because I have the 64 bit version or something. At least that’s what I’ve been told. But yeah, Vista’s not a problem.
Then again, if printers or fax machines had Vista, I’m sure there would be a problem.

  9. ... says:

Printers from the 90s =/= modern day operating system.

  10. Naruloth says:

What does an old printer/fax machine thing have to do Vista??? I like Vista quite frankly. I’ve never had to use my printer and tablet CD’s in order to install them. Vista automatically recognized my printer and pen tablet. XP on the other hand >.>; Annoying to install my tablet on, along with my printer.

  11. Zen Monkey says:

    PC Load Letter?
    WTF does that mean!?!?

  12. V Gard says:

    Creativity Fail.

Correction, Site Fail. Everybody needs to find something else to make fun of besides Vista, Bush, or Putin.

  13. i_am_#1 says:

Funny thing is, this is what I feel like doing every time it gives me crap!
    “Compute This!!!!”

  14. TJ says:

In my personal experience 99% of people who complain about Vista have never used at all, and 82% of them use a Mac, and haven’t used a PC in years. That would be like me complaining about the weather in Boston, even though I’ve never been there.

    • Call_Me_K says:

Why would someone complain about something they haven’t used? The only complaints there would be price, lack of a certain feature (from what they read on the box or determined through asking current users) or list of supported hardware. All those complaints would be, of course, perfectly valid. I still doubt they’d make up anywhere near the 99% you claim.

Microsoft dominates the market and abuses that status by making the paying consumer test it’s products rather then making sure a product is stable and secure before unleashing it on the world. That is not only unethical, it’s downright sadistic. It’s one of the many reasons I run strictly GNU/Linux software.

Before you decide to go flaming on me for not knowing what I’m talking about, I upgrade, repair, and maintain Windows PCs on a regular basis. My personal experience has led me to the conclusion that MS hasn’t released anything decent commercially since Windows 2k, SP4. For the home user, you best bet is Windows 3.1. It’s been that long.

May the Divine smile upon Linus Torvalds. ’nuff said

    • Gustav says:

Every time someone flames Vista, someone posts this.

Put up or shut up. Show me your study that proces 99% (or even close to that) of people who complain about Vista have never used it.

Your analogy is more like you actually have been to Boston, complained about the weather, and them some idiot on a forum who doesn’t even know you accuses you of never having been to Boston.

  15. Rattus says:

I saw the movie or video that this was from, but I can’t remember what it was.

  16. You people! This has nothing to do with a printer or a copy machine! It’s an Office Space win! It’s like Monty Python. Throw anything on it, and it’s a win.

  17. Ghostwish says:

How is this different from every single system that microsoft, or anyone else for that matter, has ever put out?

There’s always some technically inept idiot to complain about it and say the system sucks.

    Knock it off, seriously.

    • Gustav says:

Here’s how it’s different: Vista sucks more than any single system that microsoft, or anyone else for that matter, has ever put out. (with the possible exception of Windows Me, but that had less users to complain)

From stability issues, to having the OS put so many cryptic authentication decisions in front of the user, it ended up users to ignore all security warnings. Vista was flawed in both design and implementation.

Vista is universally panned because more people find it to be flawed. It’s that simple. There’s no secret campaign against Vista, and there’s far more complaints to attribute it to Mac or Linux fanboys.

      Vista sucks. Accept it.

      • laz says:

“Cryptic authentication decisions” if you’re an idiot, yes.

For those with sense it’s quite simple and intuitive.
But it’s the retards who moan the loudest isn’t it?

        • Ghostwish says:

Hear hear! Take Gustav’s ever-so-enlightened little comment, and replace the words Vista with any other operating system ever conceived, and you’ve got the exact same comments about operating systems we’ve been hearing for years!.
Which basically boils down to “O M G THIS SYSTEM SUKS BECUZ I AM 2 STOOPID 2 UZE IT!!11!!”.
Computers should require IQ tests before being setup, imho.

        • Naoyusimi says:

          Sheesh….turn. that. feature. off.
Your system can still be safe.
I’ve been doing fine with Vista for over a year. At first I was ticked, though, because the version of Quickbooks I had (that was supposed to be compatible) would not work, no matter what I tried. After I installed it on my fiance’s Dell (w/Vista) laptop, I realized it was probably proprietary HP-bullcrap-software that had come installed on this machine. ::cue angel chorus::
          And all was good.
I went back to XP on a tablet PC, and it looked like ancient history to me. I’ll take more Vista, please.

          • Naoyusimi says:

I think I should clarify: I didn’t go back to XP (on the tablet) because of any further Vista “problems”–just was given a tablet to use that had XP as the OS.

  18. The Crapture says:

for the folks who incessantly point out that what’s in the picture is a printer…anyone heard of the concept of “visual metaphor”…i mean, hey, i know the captioner stretched it a bit but some of you are being way too literal

  19. Rob says:

I definitely know the feeling about this one.

  20. Nicky says:

    Cool, Thanks! N

  21. John Paseley says:

When vista first came out, there were some bugs that people (meaning mac users) blew way out of preportion. Several updates later and vista is, imo, the best operating system available.
If you’re complaining about it using too much memory, then its time for you to upgrade your computer, because it’s either 10 years old, or cost you $10.

    • paws4thot says:

Several updates, and about 2 years later, my sister’s machine (one of the first quad cores) still can’t use auto-update because it’s incompatible with something IN SP1, oh and Vista has finally reached a standard that it should have been in when it became a release candidate.

I don’t use MacOSX, but do use Windows XP and Vista, several flavours of Unix and Linux, and VMS.

  22. Roderick says:

    Anyone remember Windows ME? Yeah…

  23. AprilMat says:

    Oh honestly.
I have Vista, and really, it isn’t that bad.
:/ feels the same as … whatever the hell I used before … XP? meh, anyway, it feels the same to me.
    Lay off it, jeez.

  24. QuantaKiran says:

I bought a brandspanking new pc with Vista installed. the damn thing would freeze for no reason and no it wasnt because i had 10 billion applications open.

i would be browsing or just typing our in MWord and it would bomb out. in one night i had to reset the machine 5 times!

thank goodness i bought the only machine in the store that came with xp rollback.

i rollbacked to xp and absolutely no problems since. oh yeah i bought the pc in june of last year.

  25. heather says:

I’ve had Vist afor several years and I can confidently say KILL IT WITH FIRE!! D8<

  26. Maj says:

    I have Windows 7.
