This will be a somewhat nerdish comment, but I wonder where this picture is actually from. In The Empire Strikes Back Luke is sitting down, has on a white shirt and is on the other side of the frame when Leia kisses him. I also don’t remember her putting her arms around him in such an intimate embrace. Overall the picture here is way more sensual than the fairly chaste kiss she gives him in the movie where, clearly, she did just to annoy Han. Was this perhaps from an earlier take of the scene that didn’t make the final cut?

Before the accident Luke was soposed to wind up with Leia. There was some conscern that Mark might die after the wreck, so they quickly added the wompa scene and re-wrote the script so Leia and Han got cuddle latter on in the astroid field.

You’re right about the accident, but if you look at the picture closely, this was after it happened. Luke was so adorable in A New Hope, when I was four, I decided I was gonna marry him.

I think the fact that it is someone you grew up with and share parents with is something that makes it well for lack of a better word odd. I can understand your point about the birth control but the reproduction side of this is not really the problem it is more a product of it. I cant honestly tell you why I think it shouldnt be done. It just seems very strange to seek a sexual relationship with siblings and close family. Romans and a few others thought that marrying their Mothers, sisters and other close relatives strengthened their royal blood and made it pure which we all now know isnt true.
i dont think the taboo sprung up specifically because of the close genes makes weak children argument but because most of us are repulsed by the thought of having that sort of relationship with a family member.
