Why go there when you can read all of the, and I quote, “Buckethead is the best guitarist ever” comments? To them, I say 3 2-syllable words:
JIMI FREAKING HENDRIX
JIMI FREAKING HENDRIX is kinda dead and you’ll be hard pressed to hear anything new from him. And there’s a bluesman who plays on Bourbon Street in New Orleans that could very easily BE Hendrix, he’s beyond inspired. Buckethead is an amazingly talented guitarist and definitely deserves proper recognition.
Let me define what “best guitarist ever” means, since you obviously don’t know. The best guitarist ever is a single being who has surpassed all others, past and present, in the skill of guitar-playing. The individual remains the best guitarist ever as long as no one surpasses his skill, even after death.
Um, no. Hendrix was a great innovator, and lots of people now use the techniques he worked out. For just playing, though, there are thousands of people who can play his parts just as well.
Now, if you want to talk about his skill at coming up with new things to do with a guitar, Tom Morello is probably the only person since who’s in the same league.

I find Steve Vai to be a lot better then Tom Morello in example!And in terms of inovation there is no stop to what Steve made and probably will make!

“Fanboyism” is for boy/girl bands and crappy movies about crappy sparkling vampires. One is simply a “fan” of good music. And kudos to buckethead for making people listen to him and not have the chance to comment on what his actual physical appearance is – simple plan, genius outcome.

I watched him once a long time ago. He did play alot of notes very fast and never made a mistake–I’m not sure that that one quality designates a player as the best though. Possibly entertaining a great number of people, considering we all like different stuff, has a larger ‘say’ in who is the best. Like it or not, image is marketed along with his music just as much as the boybands. It’ just has appeal to a different market.
