I liked Spike a lot better when he was making jokes about killing people instead of doing soul-searching. (Wait, I meant looking inside himself, not actually searching for a soul in Africa…never mind.) With the chip in his head, he still managed to split the Scoobies up beautifully in season four. Then he fell in love wi/Buffy, which made me hate her for a loooooooong time. She really did treat him like crap.

Haha. I found this very amusing. I used to be a huge fan of the Angel/Buffy series when they still made new episodes. I watch it every now and again but the last few times I watched it… I see why some say the fight scenes are horrible. And the special effects. But I will always love DB and Spikes because their yummy. The idea was good for the show but like what was said before… low budget and whatnot made it not as good as it could of been. I have read all of the Twilight books and watched the movie. Honestly, in my opinion, they were not that great. It was too much of a cliche, and now with all the hype about it, I cant stand Twilight. So I would defintely say The Angel/Buffy series is better than Twilight. Of course, in my opinion. And I am 17, so it cant be said that Im simply not of age to be a fangirl. I know a lot of people that are in love with Twilight. They usually drive me cray though.

In response to the section about Bram Stoker. I am very well much aware that he did not create them. Trust me, I have done extensive research into the subject for two years for reasons I won’t go into. I’ve looked at biblical sources, the mythology of Eastern Europe, why the drinking of blood was considered so evil etc. I love mythology, although I have to admit Greek mythology is rather strange; Zeus turning into animals to mate the mortals is just… let’s not go there. Vampires used to have reflections, they used to have an obsession with counting, they were ruddy and didn’t smell all that nice. So I know perfectly well they arent supposed to be thin and pretty and pale. But the fact remains that most modern vampire writers have looked to Mr Stoker first before they delve into other sources. They don’t look up Lilith, or Lamia at first. Stephanie Meyer admitted for the first one she did no research at all. Therefore she would have had to gotten her information from pop culture, which is the culture stemming from Mr Stoker. And I very much doubt a drunken Irishman would at all approve of a sparkling vampire that very rarely drinks blood.

I have read the Twilight series and enjoyed it. I have read the Harry Potter series and enjoyed it. I have read Bram Stokers Dracula and enjoyed it. I’ve read dozens of series’ that have, through their existence, been criticized because of the reaction of “obsessive fangirls”. I have to admit it’s rather off putting when someone who hasn’t read a series goes on about how it sucks just to hang with ‘the crowd’. Its nice that someone actually gave it a shot before criticizing something they know little to nothing about. Thanks for making the attempt. I myself didn’t like HP at first, and had to muster the will to get through the entire first three books before I got any enjoyment out of it.

Now then. I do have to say that I have to disagree with the view that Bram Stoker would be appalled. Bram Stoker, in my mind, would be glad to see people putting a new slant on the genre. Honestly, Bram Stoker himself did not create vampires, he created the most popular view of what a vampire should/could be. In fact, if you know mythology then you would know that there are several incredibly unusual views of what vampires are and do, including some being bloated and dark, some had lions heads and the body of a donkey, some were demonic, bronze footed creatures, Ukrainian folktale even tells of vampires having red faces and tiny tails. So saying that vampires have to be a certain way, i.e., pale, gaunt, thin, beautiful, burn in sunlight, and cant cross over running water, etc, is only true for one version of vampire mythos. The fact that she tried to make her vampires in Twilight different than what is accepted as the -only- way to do vampires anymore was refreshing.

Now, I wont say she’s an amazing writer, I’ve read much, much better. However I’d honestly like to see other people, possibly better writers, do something similar. Experiment with the genre, don’t be bound by what is, instead play with what can be. I’d like to see different takes on what a bloodsucker is than just what is accepted as vampires now.

Not only was it back when vampires sucked blood (Angel drank human blood, just not from the source, if my aunt is right), it was when you could say they were sexy and be seen as sane by more than Twitards. David Boreanaz is still sexy. Ten years from now, I’m betting Robert Pattison or whatever his name is will be starring in B-grade movies rather than on stuff people actually watch. Sorry if anyone disagrees with me – at least I accept other opinions. (that’s for Twilight fangirls)

I was thinking of mentioning, too, some of the early Eastern European legends, which, I believe, are what spawned the silent movie “Nosferatu” . . . nowhere near as romantic as the “Dracula” remakes, but worth mentioning, esp. if people think of Stoker or “Dracula” as “original”.

Dracula the original book!! Fail Fail and again FAIL!! Sorry Dracula is nowhere near the original Vampire story. The Vampire Legend itself has been going since time immemorial (when they used to be known as Revenants.) Vampires in Fiction have been going since Varney the Vampire (Penny Dreadful horror from the 1840s), and Carmilla by Sheridan LeFanu from the 1870s and have been going on even before then going into the 1700s with various other stories written by various authors including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Lord Byron (although it has been said that Byron didn’t write the story it was actually done by his Doctor.) Dracula was the original of the more modern Vampire epics.

Nearly 3 years from Angel first saw Buffy till he nailed her (She was still a freshman in LA when he first saw her, and he nailed her on her 17th birthday, so doesn’t even have the excuse that he waited until she was legal [California law]).
