Please know that I thoroughly enjoyed your caption. It doesn’t matter what my background is, what does matter is that I thought it was funny. Especially since that show (as I stated above) was terrific and was cancelled way too soon. I was as surprised as you were to see one of the funnier captions on this site devolve so quickly into what can only be considered IMHO as muck. Not everybody needs to comment as such, only a few humorously challenged individuals did. ^_^

I was catching up on captions (since I was without internet for two weeks) and I was absolutely thrilled that one of my pictures made it to the mainpage. It explained why people favoriting me jumped to 213 (I just figured people just recommended this pic to their buddies). THEN I saw the many, many comments people left.

Honestly, I’m disappointed in many people here. Whether they were making very sad, lewd, and juvenile comments for their personal amusement or (inaccurately) launching to conclusions about the basis of the picture, I was reminded of why I no longer circulate certain internet forums (G4, [adult swim]) .

It’s a joke. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously, much less a nod to “phalocentric domination”.

Naoyusimi, I am SORRY for whatever happened in your life that has effected your sense of humor so. I’m not being trying to be a jerk or demean or insult you or anything (that position’s been taken, obviously). I am GENUINELY sorry that you experienced something in that made you look at this picture and immediately go for the jugular (so to speak…from your posts it seems you REALLY aiming a wee-bit south *rimshot*).

It’s over now. No more battling over this belief or that ideology. It’s done. I really don’t appreciate this much needless animosity over something I parodied, intended to ENTERTAIN.

Atheism is just as narrow and baseless as any other firmly held religious belief. I consider myself agnostic because, while I don’t believe in any particular imaginary friend, I can’t disprove the possibility that one (or many) may exist.

My only criticism is that the vast majority of religious people believe in the imaginary friend they were taught to believe in since they were impressionable children. Not the most objective position to be arguing from….

Secondly, no one is trying to disprove religion. Well, I’m not, anyway.

Thirdly, evolution is wrongly described in your diatribe above as “atheistic” . . . some scientists I know are deeply religious. Some aren’t. As you say, science and religion are on two different planes. As they should be, since science deals with evidence, and belief often flies in the face of evidence.

Fourthly, your statement that there is “no more proof of evolution than of Christian Creation” is wrong. Educate yourself. I don’t have all year. I have other points here to refute.

Fifthly, you say that atheists are depending on faith to have a lack of belief in a god, of whom there is no proof. No one has to prove something ISN’T there, for me to think it ISN’T THERE. I will think that an empty box is truly an empty box because my senses tell me so. I’m not using faith; I’m using experience, knowledge, and my senses. Could there be something BEYOND those faculties’ abilities? I suppose, but it doesn’t take *faith* to say with reasonable certainty, “The box is empty”. The burden of proof (and faith) is on the person saying that there’s something in the box, when I have used every test of which I’m aware and shown that there is not.

Sixthly, I’m not so offended by “The Look” (although what a horrid photograph of that woman), as I am by the quaint Neolithic belief that females were created from a part of the male body, subservient to him and there for his needs.

Seventhly, I agree with your assessment of silly sitcoms. That does get old. It’s about time it went the way of the old “I Love Lucy” show–history–that setup, where the wife was the bumbling but loveable idiot, always getting into scrapes, with hubby there to bail her out. Hey . . . wait a minute!

2nd, Women are getting offended by “the look”. It seems that those who are offended think that culture is against women. This “offensive” caption was a joke that *gasp* didn’t view women in an entirely positive light. Honestly, this is the first thing on internet/T.V. that i have seen in a while that would be offensive to women in a pop-culture sense. Ever seen the old sitcom Home Improvement? Family Matters? Even more recent shows like George Lopez have a hard-working, wonderful wife who can do all the work around the house, manage a job, take care of the kids, cook, and have fun and always, always be right in any argument. The husband is consistently portrayed as a bumbling idiot who makes mistakes or makes a small error that the wife gets furious about, and even when the wife is obviously wrong the bumbling, idiotic caricature of a husband must apologize and make things right. This is what married men act like? And the women on these comments got mad over this joke?

I did think that this caption was funny, but the comments really annoyed me and I wanted to address the people who took it too seriously.

If it wasn’t so sad, it’d be amusing to watch the uneducated masses scrabble to think of something to say when an intelligent woman starts making too much sense.

No one said that the cultures that exist in the Bible were thought to be “just mythical”. I’ve never heard anyone say that. The stories these early, non-scientific cultures used to explain and justify the world around them are myths, and should be taken as such. It was the best they could do at the time, but that is all it was.

Don’t bring up science. Religion and Science are two different things. Anyone claiming one disproves the other is retarded. That goes for both sides. Sciences is how the universe works. Religion is why it works.

Where was I preaching? Why would I preach a religion I don’t believe in? Oh! Was I preaching that you should actually LEARN what you claim to believe in? Gee, sorry for pointing our your ignorance, self-proclaimed Churchie.

It just astounds me how many people, people who are otherwise well-educated and reasonable, to this day believe men have one less rib on one side because God took it out to create women. It just boggles the mind.
