  1. BioChick says:

Critics, fans…. Did anyone like this?

    • UBERGRUE says:

      Myeh.

    • paws4thot says:

      I don’t know anyone who admits to liking SW 1 .. 3.

      • fiendishrabbit says:

They’re decent, although could definitely benefit from losing Jar Jar and gaining a few actors that could express emotion (face it, Lucas has never been a good director when it comes to emotional scenes).
The Art directorship is top notch too.

They don’t measure up to 4-6 though, and it’s this expectation that ruins them for a lot of people.

        • paws4thot says:

I got a chance to see the mess that is SW3 for free a few years back, and still walked out after 15 minutes of garish GCI in which nothing relevant to any plot there may have been had happened. So before the full horror that is “I’m A Pain Skywalker” was revealed to me.

      • Akoto says:

I had fun with the sequels. Granted, I didn’t go in expecting cinema on the level of Casablanca or The Godfather. It’s Star Wars. Both trilogies are clumsy and flawed on some level, but they’re fun movies if you don’t take them too seriously.

Ian McDiarmid was a great actor throughout. Couldn’t imagine anyone else as Palpatine. Jar Jar needed to go, though.

        • Never Mind says:

SW1 was ok. They could use a better Skywalker in 2 and 3, and cut out some of the slapsticks.

Oh ya, love to go out as Palpatine clone on Halloween :) .

          • wraitii says:

Agree. SW 1 ( from the new trilogy, not “a new hope” ) was correct. It’s not a great movie, but it certainly isn’t bad.

            SW 2 is just wrong.

SW 3 is watchable. Mainly for the ending fight.

            • Eric-in-STL says:

I thought 3 was probably the best of the new trilogy. Not great by any means, but it almost felt Star Wars-ish. The rest, not so much. Episode 2 was boring as hell and I don’t want to see Darth Vader’s whiny younger self fall in love. Screw it.

            • 1 was…watchable.
              2 wasn’t actually awful

By 20 minutes into 3–or after we lost Christopher Lee– I was wincing at every wipe transition. They REALLY overused it and it grated. I’m also not buying surprise twins and dying of a broken heart.

      • Eric-in-STL says:

My son does, but he’s 8 and doesn’t know any better.

    • Alejandro says:

Loved them, i enjoyed them very much.
I agree they could be better, but i loved them very much!

      • Oscar the Mild says:

I agree. I enjoyed the prequels as much as the originals. The prequels were set in a different time to the originals, the old republic doomed to failure – the originals were about rebel freedom fighters against an evil empire, so yes there were differences – too many people expected the prequels to be the same as the originals, either that, or just upset that their beloved Star Wars was available to another generation and was not frozen in time

Ian McDiarmed was the best actor throughout – in SW3 he was EVIL – Annakin had no chance against such a supreme manipulator – and the lightsaber duel at the end of SW3 is epic

As to Jar Jar, myeh – he was supposed to be an annoying character though – he got exiled from his own people because he was so annoying – somewhat ironic that by the end of SW3 he would have been a folk hero to the gunguns – brokered the alliance on Naboo, became General and later became the first gungun senator

    • Ahmed says:

I liked the prequel trilogy better than the original

  2. Oikonny says:

lol, i uploaded this picture (without the captions) last friday, nice to see that “in action” :-D

  3. UpTheYingYang says:

To me Star Wars 1 was in 1977 and will always be the first. I lost all interest with Return of the Jedi. Stone age teddy bears fighting and winning over Imperial troops? Lucas you can shove Ewoks up yer ^&%&^*%!!!

  4. ThisIsSpatula says:

Compared to the original trilogy, the prequels sucked. But everyone had too high of expectations for them. But I didn’t think they were all THAT bad
Ep 1 was really corny and the only thing that saves it from being a complete waist of time is the ending fight.
Ep 2 was ok. Not as bad ep 1, but not as good as the OT. Watchable – but not that great.
I loved Ep 3. Yeah, the acting wasn’t that great, but all the star wars movies are not not known for the acting. But the storyline was awesome and the last fight scene is just epic.

    • ThisIsSpatula says:

Oh yes. I forgot to add.

      JARJAR NEEDED TO DIE.
He should have died in one of them.
Or better yet. not have been created

    • Morelli says:

I was not impressed with the prequels, even though I like some of the actors. I loved the kid who played young Anikin. I am especially annoyed with how they took this confident and spirited kid in SW1 and made him become a pouty, whiny jerk in 2 & 3. There was no chemistry or growth between young man Anikin and Amadala, but a few minutes of rolling in the grass of a field and we are supposed to believe they are in love? ARghhh.

  5. Am I missing a tooth? says:

Anyone else notice that the bit about a twin brother and sister being born from a woman, who then keels over dead, is also a major plot point in one of the later Dune books?

  6. Stephanie says:

I thought the prequels were alright, but suffered from a lack of acting. If you go back to the original trilogy, the writing is just as painful. The difference is that the actors still managed a decent job, and so lifted the dialog from the page. This was not achieved as well in the new films. The second one – which relied heavily on the acting abilities of Anakin and Padme – was also full of scenes that required a skilled writer (where as Lucas does his best as a director) so it was hit the hardest. Not even a rather impressive disconnect from the original could help pull through that one.

It reminds me of the third X-men movie. Again, just some terrible dialog in there. I mean that truly, just some God awful writing. Yet the scenes with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan? Perfectly watchable only because they bring life to the dialog and give it a natural cadence, the sort of thing the writers just missed entirely, so despite all it’s flaws it still sounds alright.

  7. iheartarchuleta says:

Shut up! In my opinion, I thought all the movies weren’t that bad. But I got the most bored with 3. I mean, Anakin finding out Padme was prego was probably the most interesting part. And Dooku getting his head sliced off. The original trilogy was the best. Awesome action, awesome dialog, top notch actors.

  8. Mars says:

I liked the prequels….except with the end of 3, honestly, with all the technology they have, they couldn’t save padme? Curious, that.
it’s not a big issue, just kinda odd.

  9. Scuba Shark says:

Everyone’s expectations were too high for the prequels. I don’t really understand that mentality; most people would love the movies considerably more if they were just competently made.. not so emo and lame, a little more mystical, etc.
