  1. kosher ham says:

Umm, he did a hell of a lot more than Mr. Bean, see link.

But still so full of WIN!

    • radec says:

i agree. Rowan is one of the top 5 British legends. others in the top 5 include David Jason (Del Boy) and John Cleese (Basil).

    • JayPea says:

He was in that Charlie Sheen spoof movie, the one with the body count on the screen, but I can’t remember the name. He played a bad guy in that one, I think I remember.

      • Humphr says:

That would be “Hot Shots! Part Deux”…His character wasn’t so much a bad guy as he was the husband (Dexter) of Topper’s love interest, Ramada.

Great movie…Love the oh-so-touching scene with Miguel Ferrer and Charlie Sheen: “War….It’s faaaaaantastic!”

        • Teh Beast says:

NOW PEOPLE!!! this photo and capton is about mr. bean, so BEFORE you post hundreds of comments about mr.bean sucking(and i dont think he does)and spamming about blackadder THINK FOR A GOD DAMN SECOND!!1 also mr does talk sometimes…and dont mind posting hate comments after mine because i just wont read them.

  2. SS says:

And he did mutter some words even as Mr. Bean.

  3. Sherri says:

Black Adder is ALL TIME WIN! Hilarious, historically accurate, and did I mention, Hiliarious???????

And his stand up routines were good too– I will never forget Hells Greeter sketch.

  4. Cszemis says:

I like how you hear little of his private life in the news. Most celebrities nowadays flaunt everything about themselves, Mr Atkinson is quite private and therefore far more dignified

    • HellHathNoFury says:

Or maybe…he’s a wierd sexual deviant with a dungeon full of fun stuff that he doesn’t want people to know about, and he lures the women there with his ravishing good looks! Or he’s a spy ninja for the government! Conspiracy!!!

    • JayPea says:

PeeWee Herman tried to keep his private life private, too, but when it went public, it was anything but dignified! But, in no way am I suggesting Rowan is anything like PeeWee. I have seen bios of him by the guys who worked with him, and he was very well liked, except he seemed to like to get all the limelight, but they laughed when they said that and said it was just Rowan being Rowan. That made me think he was a nice guy or they wouldn’t have been laughing.

      • Cszemis says:

What I meant was that most celebrities want you to know who they’re going out with, who they’ve slept with, what they’re wearing, who they like or dislike, what they did out dancing, what their home life is like via reality shows, and they update everything using Twitter. It’s not very professional. I just want them to do their job ie make me laugh, make me cry, amaze me with their talent. The rest of it is worthless

    • dolt says:

i know he collects flash cars

  5. james says:

he also has a ph.d. in electrcal engineering, i think.

    • paws4thot says:

I couldn’t swear to that either way, but he can drive an articulated truck; he learnt to do that just because he wanted to.

  6. factory says:

    He’s also a father, search for Gemma Atkinson… you’ll thank me :D

  7. BlowOutYourBlood says:

This works for Charlie Chaplin too, right? And besides, Black Adder was much better than Mr. Bean.

  8. ths says:

1 generation = either 20 year, generally (or ~25, depending on who you are talking to). he is only 54

    54 << 60 (or 75) … FAIL!

  9. Smurf says:

    Hear Hear. (:

  10. angie says:

    wheres boldrick

  11. V10L3N7 JAY says:

I never liked this guy. Especially Mr. Bean. Humor always seemed forced and desperate coming from him. Yawn.

  12. DAK23 says:

Rowan is terrificly funny. Also, he did ‘The Thin Blue Line’, not staggeringly funny, but it had it’s moments. Mr. Bean is just… juvenile, purile, doofus humor, and I love it!

  13. Graham says:

    File under ‘Epic win’

  14. Woman says:

Totally agree, but shouldn’t it read TALENT instead of ABILITY? It’s more precise.

  15. Strangedaze says:

He is funny, unlike this lol.

  16. Casa says:

who cares what he looks like, he still makes me giggle. ^^

    • Vila Restal says:

And according to many celebrities who know him, he’s invariably late for most things, and usually has a way of getting out of paying for meals, drinks etc. (The famous “Oh. I’ve forgotten my wallet” ploy)

      • lb says:

That would explain it!! I’ve been wondering about the line in “Never Met A Nice South African” for ages!

        • Vila Restal says:

“Oh we’re a bunch of arrogant borstards with no sense of humor”

Ah yes!! I love that song. (Not to sung in front of my great Aunt, who comes from “Dirbun, Sarf Ifrika”.) The B Side of the Chicken Song. Ah they don’t write them like that anymore :-)

    • AbAcAd says:

Well, Mr. Again. Post a picture of your face on the internet at multiple sites, try to gain a fame equivalent of his and then we’ll talk.

For now you are a cowardly lame hypocrite.

    • Lol says:

Wow talk about judging a cover by its book

  17. beingwyrd says:

Am i the only person who cannot stand him?

i am sure he is talented but he just bugs me

    • PersonPeople says:

I agree with you completely, this guy is annoying and I enjoy a lot of British humor. I’m sure for many he’s a barrel of laughs. For me, all I see is a big barrel of fail.

  18. Mille says:

I didn’t realize that anyone actually thought he was funny.

    • Starlinguk says:

Mr Bean isn’t funny, but Blackadder is brilliant. He talks in that, though. A LOT.

Atkinson is funny when he’s not playing bumbling buffoons (to nick a Snape phrase).

  19. Rammkatze says:

Here’s an unpopular opinion for you: Mr Bean is the worst crap that came from UK since Benny Hill. God, I can’t think of anyone as “unfunny” und overrated as Mr Atkinson.

Black Adder was VERY good, except for the bits with Atkinson. :|

  20. Grandevil says:

I hate Mr. Bean, I never found it funny.

  21. Ali says:

Lol this made it to the front page….finallyyy,

  22. Sshmoe says:

Cast my vote for Mr. A. I dig everything he’s done. So many styles. And his “invisible drum kit” was spot-on priceless.

    • Aerliss says:

Saw that only very recently… nearly laughed myself into an early grave.

Never found Bean funny though… just didn’t get it.

  23. Dope says:

He makes me laugh but it is a fairly unique humour which I appreciate is not everybodys taste, thank God we are all different because it would be as boring as fcuk if we all liked the same stuff.

  24. Angel Rose says:

ooo i love mr. bean and i need to see his other films but holy crap hehas always made me laugh with the mr. bean stuff. :D :)

  25. Mar.s says:

Why?! Why is this all he’s remembered for?! Rowan Atkinson has done much better then the repetitive idiocy that is “Mr. Bean”!

  26. lb says:

I liked the first episode of Mr Bean, but after that it just got boring and repetitive.

Same with Blackadder, if I’m honest. The first series was excellent, but from then on in it got crapper and crapper. It turned in to what I can only describe as “catch-phrase comedy” (“I have a cunning plan”, an entire script made out of metaphors and smilies and so on).

The only real exception being bits of “Goes Forth”, and that was more because of the topic than the script. And the ending was one of the best things I’ve seen on TV. It was repeated a few nights ago (25th anniversary of Blackadder I starting) and it still made me go “Wow”.

    • DaffySaffy says:

The first (medieval) Blackadder was very much a curate’s egg, IMO. Blackadder the Second, now THAT was toptastic from start to finish!

      • paws4thot says:

Although the first one does have [Vol=11]BRIAN BLESSED[/11] in it.

        • Vila Restal says:

Ah yes!! The not so late, but still great BRIAN BLESSED (Whose name can only be written in Capitals :-) ) I remember his stint on “Have I got news for you” when he said “You know many people think that Gordon Brown is dead in the water. But not me. I say” (Dramatic Pause) “GORDON’S ALIVE!!!!” (Makes me wonder though I wonder if his wife is deaf yet?? “Do you want toast dear” “YES PLEASE” “Eggs?” “TWO PLEASE” :-)

          • paws4thot says:

Speaking of which, the 25th? anniversary edition of Flash Gordon I bought just to get the BRIAN BLESSED commentry track, and it was worth the money!

    • Cszemis says:

I hope you’re kidding. The first series improves as it goes on but the first episode is painful to watch because it is really quite awful. I know they say a cunning plan a lot but the last three were far superior and wittier, with many of their historial jokes just bang on target without being beyond the knowledge of most viewers. The Prince Regent was as bad as that, and the Tudor courts were just as dangerous with heads rolling right and left. I love British history so it really makes me laugh. The first series makes me mourn because it had so much potential; that period of history could have been satired far better. I think Blackadder 2, 3 and 4 becomes funnier the more history you know and understand.

As for the ending of Blackadder Goes Forth, it’s Hugh Laurie that has me in tears at the end. His character is so happy and positive the whole way through, blind to the danger he’s in, and then at the very end he finally admits he doesnt want to die, and that he’s frightened. As good as he is in House, it will always be Lieutenant The Honourable George Colthurst St. Barleigh’s final confession of fear and his seemingly undying optimism that makes him memorable. At least for me.

      • lb says:

Oh come on – the last series (Aside from satirising the war, which was well worth it) was nothing but metaphors, similes, Stephen Fry making stupid noises and Darling Jokes, with the occasional knob gag thrown in when they ran out of ideas.

Forgive me for wanting more from my comedy than people saying the same tired thing over and over and over and over again and still expecting a laugh.

And yeah – the very first episode wasn’t a work of genius, but it was mostly a setup and pilot episode rolled in to one (although the original pilot was a lot worse!) it got better, with the Arch-Bishop and Witchfinder episodes being really quite good. Far better than some of the god-awful crap they were churning out at the end.

        • Cszemis says:

Oh please. The forth Blackadder was easily the best of the lot, with Blackadder II running a very close second behind it. The satire was at its sharpest, especially since it was such a ridiculous war and it affected nearly every family in Britain from that era. The whole foolishness behind the pigeon and soldiers acting insane in order to get away from the brutality of warfare was all true, but somehow the writers were able to make it funny and poignant at the same time. And as for all the similes and metaphors, thats called worldplay, and its one of the most difficult forms of comedy to pull off right, and usually is only found in high class comedy. if you didn’t find it funny its above your level. Plus having Baldrick as a potential revolutionary and Hugh Laurie in drag makes it all the more classic.

  27. iznawtkewl says:
