my take on this…(and yes I am a “Mythbusters” fan) Bryon makes legit contribution to the show…and if you watch the show, you’ll realize she doesn’t purposely try to add ‘eye candy.” And secondly, I doubt very much if Hyneman would put up her (or much of anybody else) if they weren’t serious and knowledgable workers.

Actually, Scottie left after the ‘Baghdad Battery’ episode. The prank they pulled on Adam was highly dangerous and since she was the project leader and in charge of safety, should have vetoed it. I don’t know the whole inside story but I speculate that she was let go because of it. It was a shame because I liked her too.
Also, I’ve never seen Scottie and Kari in the same episode before. I thought they brought her in after Scottie left.

Well, I can’t answer for her pregnancy leave-replacement (g), but Kari is what the folks over at TVTropes call an Ascended Fan. She was an early fan of the show that bugged Jaimie to hire her as an “I’ll go anywhere, I’ll do anything” utility person. On that basis, if she hadn’t shown that she was going to get down to business and not fool around, Hyneman would have ashcanned her so fast her head would still be revolving now.

I feel the same way. I always looked at her as a cool lady scientist until this and the pregnancy hiding. I’m sure she’s smart and very qualified to be on the show with the guys, but… she’s not the role model that she used to be to me anymore.
