  1. ohai says:

    all aboard teh failboat

    • t3hOutlaw says:

I liked the film. I used to watch it every time it came on Sky Premier.. and I’m a guy!

      ..at least… I think I am. O_o

      • AngelMax says:

        I liked it too!

        • Karen says:

I liked the movie, too, but four times was enough. I swore I wouldn’t watch it again until April 2012 (100th anniversary of the sinking, for those of you who are uninformed), but since that’s supposedly “the end of the world” according to some cultures, I may want to do something else with my extra three hours. :-D Just sayin’

  2. Kitty says:

I think it earned every award it got, but seriously it’s not something I would watch a second time. The version they did on “America’s Funniest Home Videos” with chimps I could watch a few times!

  3. Drongo says:

The reason it was number one? Teenage girls went to see it four, five, six times. With all their friends, with all their family, with all the Other girls in school etc. etc. etc.

  4. Chry says:

Not true. I can stand it. For all of five seconds.

  5. Eoz says:

I think it’s just that no one admits to liking it!

    • RayneJade says:

      i think so too
i for one am not ashamed to confess that i freaking love that movie!! i’ve watched it again a few times, and definitely will in the future :3

      • theFail says:

Yes :) This is a classical and romantic movie! Everyone should watch it at least once!

        • improbable says:

It’s not just the romance that makes this a good movie to watch at least once. It hits on racism, sexism, classism, the down fall of pride, doing the right thing… this wasn’t just a “oh look, two people who shouldn’t have fallen in love did” kinda movie. But I can still understand why it wouldn’t be a lot of people’s “thing.” The hype led to backlash, and now, I completely agree, people don’t admit to liking it because of that.

          • ajohnson153 says:

On technical merit it was a great movie. Say what you want about it but it was a well made piece of cinema. It was a chick flick to be sure. But you must give credit where it is due.

          • crunchy says:

Yep. The thing about people not admitting it. I loved this movie, saw it once in the theater. I wasn’t a teenager when it came out. I bought it when it came out on VHS. I’ll probably buy the DVD sometime.

  6. Ho Lee Fook says:

    I haven’t seen it. Honestly, I haven’t.

    • sbyrstall says:

We must be the only ones who haven’t seen it.

      • Wut says:

I haven’t seen it either, and for years no one would ever believe me when I said so.

        • someforeingguy says:

but why haven’t you seen it ? are you guys making a statement?? or you are simply not interested. Because, for instance, I haven’t seen the second movie of LOTR despite having seen the two other ones. Why??? because I’m honestly not into that kind stuff, I just saw the first and the last movie because I was at the movies with my friends. Now twilight, on the other hand, that’s a movie I’m not watching out making a statement: twilight = p.o.s.

          • Mina says:

See Twilight with the riftracks. Trust me. It’s awesome! Watch it with a box of tissues. Not because you’ll be crying at the movie itself, but because you’ll be laughing so hard. I couldn’t breathe by the end of it. It was great, best laugh I’d had in months.

          • Isildo says:

The second one wasn’t as good anyway. There’s a great summary here {http://rinkworks.com/bookaminute/b/tolkien.twotowers.shtml} if you’re interested. Won’t take more than a second to read, I promise.

            • Cas says:

Haven’t seen it because I just never took the time, but then I’ve never seen a lot of good/great movies. i.e. Wizard of Oz (not even stoned while listening to dark side of the moon)

        • forge says:

I deliberately avoided it. I despise gimmickry and being told a film is “must-see.” I had no desire – none – to see a movie about a woman screwing around on her husband with Leonardo DiCaprio.

          • who cares says:

It was her boyfriend / more or less official fiance, not her husband. But yeah, when you look at it like that, you want to smack all involved.

          • Bamsham says:

To be even more technical, the impending marriage was arranged by her mother and revolved completely around money; he treated her like crap; and she despised him and her social obligations to the point where she attempted suicide. But, meh, I guess she should’ve put up with it and been miserable for the rest of her life. Oh, also, it was not at all difficult to be a woman in the early 20th century and no one can ever possibly be trapped by societal expectations.

Well, anyway, if you’ve really never seen it because you don’t like the concept, that’s cool. But if you’ve avoided it more because of that whole “must-see” thing, then you’re quite silly. And the silliest part is that, while you probably think you’re above media influence, you’re still letting what’s popular dictate what you do and do not see.

    • Sindy says:

I haven’t seen it either. I’m sure it’s a good film, I just can’t stand the song. Or rather, can’t stand Celine Dion’s voice. The next time it comes up on TV, I might make an effort depending on what else is on, but put my fingers in my ears to cover over the song. Yuk.

      • improbable says:

You do know the song isn’t IN the movie?

        • boodog108 says:

No, it’s not, but it does run over the end credits…which is way more than enough! I didn’t care about the “Jack and Rose” story, I’d have just as soon seen a documentary about the ship, without the chessy love story.

        • Sindy says:

Since I’ve not seen the movie, I wouldn’t know that, no. I just can’t stand her voice. Too high and reedy for my ears. I much prefer a deeper voice like Karen Carpenter or K D Lang. Celine Dion? Bleugh!

      • forge says:

Oh GOD I forgot about that HORRIFIC Celine song. I wouldn’t watch this movie unless you paid me in the high seven figures. By the time that f*cking song got off heavy rotation I wanted to jam icepicks – plural – into my forehead to stop the pain.

      • mew2 says:

Celene Dion…the reason God created mute buttons for television remotes…

  7. Wickedoll says:

I have never seen it and I never will.

  8. Galena says:

I don’t understand HOW it became so successful. Are people really that desperate for a movie they already know the ending of? The boat sinks, people. It’s been at the bottom of the ocean for decades. Can we move on yet?

  9. Care Troll says:

I just kept rewinding to watch leo drown.

  10. My wife drug me to that film 10 times in the theaters. That’s 30 hours of my life I’ll never get back. It’s a good movie on the first viewing, but it doesn’t take long before you start noticing all the stupid mistakes and how bad some of the acting really was. I can’t even stand watching it now.
That being said, the second half with the boat sinking is WAAAAAAY better than the sappy love story in the first half.

    • shonuff says:

Yeah, the second half is definitely the best. Watching the cracking of the boat, the people falling and then it sinking. Of course, watching Leo turn blue and die is always a plus.
“I won’t let you goooo!!” well, once he turned blue I’d say it safe to drop him.

    • The Admiral says:

The Amazing Rando just pointed out how the movie did so well. It was a whole bunch of women seeing the movie four billion times each.

  11. wtf says:

This was a great movie, but it’s a movie you can’t start watching in the middle because without the emotional investment of the first, the second half just plays as humor. In this way, the relase of the movie on cable has given many people a bad impression of its merits.

  12. Kirby the Cow says:

I enjoy watching it now than then, it’s a cool film to look into if you want to study film production. But it’s not anything I’d watch over and over again.

  13. ceallaig says:

I saw it just to see what all the hoohah was about … and never really did. Every dime of the budget is up there on screen, it’s visually spectacular … but the writing fails. And I expected far better out of Cameron, who blew me away with Aliens. Kate and Leo were good, but there was no reason for them to fall in love other than the writer wanted them to. Billy Zane’s character was drawn in such broad black strokes he might as well have been wearing a cape and black mustache. If they had given him some human motivation, like real jealousy, it might have been interesting. But no, he was like a kid with a pretty toy — he didn’t really want it, but by god no one else was going to have it. Meh. Kathy Bates was very good, Victor Garber’s scene at the end with the clock (“I’m sorry I couldn’t make a stronger ship for you, young Rose”) broke my heart — HE deserved an Oscar nod, there was more emotion in his few short scenes than all of Kate and Leo’s histrionics. The actors were good, it was a pity they didn’t have better to work with. And it should have gotten all the technical Oscars in the world, but not Best Picture. However, it was an aircraft carrier in a year of tugboats, so ….

  14. Stormy says:

I’m probably a sad, sad creature, but I actually watched it four times while it was still in the theater. While the love story was a tad cheesy, the entire thing was just beautifully done. The writing, direction, camera work and score were amazing. I didn’t cry over Jack’s death, but those scenes with the other people who were trapped on the ship, like the young Irish mother and her two children, and that poor old couple clinging to each other on the bed while the water is rising….all that makes me bawl every time.

    • I’ll admit, the Irish family waiting to drown was particularly sad, especially considering how many people (including and especially children) died on that boat. :(

      • Granola Butt says:

I think that part is the saddest for me also. And I will willingly admit that I love the movie, but then again I’m a girl so I’m part of the stereotypical demographic.

    • barboid says:

Yeah, the shots of all the people waiting to die got to me as well. That’s when the reality hit. It was such a waste that could’ve been prevented. What attracted me to the movie was the shots of the ship now side by side with what it looked like when new. I agree with ceallaig, especially about the oscars, but we all know that the awards are somewhat suspect anyway.

  15. Sally says:

It’s my dad’s favorite movie. My brother loves it, too.
…My aunt and I may actually be the only people in my family who didn’t like it.

  16. RaptorJesus says:

This movie sucks. Why watch a 3 hour movie when you already know the ending. Girl lives, boy dies, ship sinks. I’d rater watch Terminator/T2/Aliens/The Abbys.

  17. Why Not? says:

Advertising hype + mindless (yet well directed) chick flick =/= quality movie.

  18. BAW says:

If you want to see a GOOD movie about the Great Ship going down, try “A Night to Remember.”

  19. Roger says:

:::See “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”:::

  20. X says:

    Ok… and?

Lots of people saw it, and didn’t like it. There’s no disconnect there.

And the teenage girls who did like it went to see it multiple times.

I’ve never seen it (it’s true) so I can’t say if it’s good or not. The trailer was sort of annoying.

  21. Jon in DC says:

fortunately there is a site which shows best selling movie of all time based not on inflated prices but on actual ticket sales and this movie plumets down the list a number of places when filtered for sanity

  22. mello says:

This is my all-favorite movie. I love everything about it, even its flaws. Plus I think Leo is just gorgeous and this was the beginning of his amazing film career. I am that teenage girl that saw the movie millions of times in the theatre, and I am a hopeless romantic. I am aware of this, and I accept it 100%.

  23. metalhead3000 says:

ACTUALLY, there are even worse movies. Yeah, I know what you think—”No way dude.” But guys, guys—have you seen Pearl Harbor?

  24. deadharvest says:

PURE. DRIVEL. Titanic (the movie) was EPIC FAIL. Well i guess Titanic (the boat) was pretty much epic fail as well…

  25. angie says:

never seen it never want to

  26. Techromancer says:

It debatable as to whether or not it was the top grossing movie of all time… adjusted for inflation it’s not at number one.

  27. SKW says:

That’s because we actually saw it before we knew we hated it. That doesn’t seem to be the norm anymore.

  28. Crosis101 says:

I saw Titanic several times with Girls I liked. It was the number one movie for a reason. That reason being in the time between thanksgiving and Christmas and even well into the new year, there was no big event picture. So people kept going and going….

The Movie that finally took the number one at the box office from Titanic that year was LOST IN SPACE.

  29. Annie Crimefighter says:

Who do these comments make me think of Twilight…? Oh, that’s right…

  30. yeahright says:

all i heard about this movie was how romantic it was with leo and kate..then i saw it..the scene where they are hanging on the railing and the mother says to her son “don’t worry it will be over soon” KILLED ME!!! i didn’t give a crap about leo and kate and romance my heart was broken!!!!

    • Kitty says:

Yeah, it was much more intense to watch the secondary people, the parts with no names, than anything the main characters may have done. Both the wealthy and the poor. I don’t remember who the millionaire guy was who just sat there, drink in hand, and watched as the water came bursting in. The frozen mother who floats by holding her equally frozen baby, and the Unsinkable Molly Brown, who in history really did have to be threatened to keep her from trying to take on everyone she could into the lifeboat. (The thing couldn’t hold that many!) Jack and Rose? Meh. The people being held behind the gate so the first-classers could get to the boats first? Lordy that scene riled me up!

  31. slaggingham says:

…DURR I will be kewl if I say I hayted this moovie and nobudy will know I cryed thru it DURR…

So I already knew the ending? I already knew the endings to “Apollo 13″ (they live) and “Saving Private Ryan” (we win the war) and “Hamlet” (he dies, she dies, everybody dies) and “Revenge of the Sith” (he’s Darth Vader) and “Lord of the Rings” (they win) and “Citizen Kane” (It’s his sled) and “The Crying Game” (she’s a man, baby!) but that doesn’t detract from the experience at all.

  32. =j says:

    #1? Try #6.

  33. CC says:

The person who captioned this didnt talk to girls very often.

  34. Jojo says:

I think the directer should have gone more of a direction of instead of an iceberg, have a giant squid attack. A space squid. It should be a space liner. Also, make Winslet have 4 boobs.

Then it would have truly won #1 movie in my heart.

  35. it’s kind of a love/not-love kind of thing.

  36. Sakonige (sah-koh-nee-gay) says:

We all knew the boat was gonna sink, but who could have predicted “No, *I* am your father!

“21 Reasons Why Star Wars Is Better Than Titanic”
    http://www.jokesandhumor.com/jokes/274.html

  37. Dave says:

I remember women talking about how romantic the movie was, especially when the guy played by DeCaprio dies. Yes, having a doomed romance in the middle of a tragedy where one part of the romance dies is SOOOOO romantic.

    • keithybabes says:

Funny how so many women liked it. Makes you think that their ideal romantic partner is one who conveniently dies after they consummate their love. Next time you see a far-away look in your girl’s eye, she’s probably just picturing you turning blue and sinking gently into oblivion…

  38. ai says:

    i actually liked the film

  39. sarah says:

not me. i love this movie! just like everyone else, they just dont want to admit to it. cause they think its gay for them to like it. but thats gay of them. =P

  40. ceallaig says:

By no means the worst movie of all time — many things good about it in fact … just don’t think it was worthy of all the hoopla. And if I heard “My Heart Will Go On” one more time ….

Cameron — the first two Terminator movies, Aliens, Abyss … good stuff all, with moments of sheer genius. I am actually looking forward to Avatar, which is either going to be amazing or totally suck, haven’t decided which yet.

As for worst movie EVER, I can even beat Plan 9. Any Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans out there who remember “Manos, the Hand of Fate”? INCREDIBLY horrible, beyond description bad. And then there was “Ator the Fighting Eagle”, which I was watching at a midnight showing when the film broke … and no one cared! Matter of fact, the audience was making up their own dialogue which was far better than what was on screen ….

  41. B-caff says:

Massive marketing can draw people to a film, even if they hate it afterwords, like Obama.

  42. CandleJack says:

I didn’t care for the characters (boring), romance (I’m gay, even knew it back then), or plot (you kinda know how it’s gonna end) but I think the Titanic was the most beautiful ship ever built, and the technical effects and superb musical score make it stunning to watch. It’s easily one of my top ten favorite movies. You just need a special occasion to watch it because it’s SO FRICKEN LONG.

  43. Chrysta says:

I am a girl and Titanic is one of my favorite movies. I watched it several times in theatres and own the dvd and have watched it several times, as well as watching it when it comes on tv. But it is also one of my Dad’s favorite movies too, and he isn’t one for chick flicks.

The reason why I love this movie so much is only partly because of the love story. The movie is full of action, tragedy, love, and humor. To me it is a complete package.

The love story is so touching because Rose, who is stuck in a marriage and life that she doesn’t want to be in, finds this guy who seems to care for her more than her husband does without even knowing her at all. In Jack, Rose finds freedom and the love she desires. In Rose, Jack finds the exceptance that he cannot find because of his class level. In that is the saddness of them being torn apart. They both lose something that was so important to them.

The other part of the story is of course the horrible tragedy of Titanic sinking. The lives lost, the horrifying hours of the sinking. Finding compassion for the real people that died.

The rest is just finding compassion for fictional characters put into a horrible situation.

To me it comes down to putting your emotions into these fictional characters or not. If put your heart into these people and imagine yourself in such a situation then maybe you will enjoy the film more.

I can’t stand that people pick movies apart. Oh, this sucked and that sucked… blah.. wah.. boo hoo.
A movie is a movie… just please enjoy it for what it is, and not hate it for what it isn’t.

    Sorry for the longness.

  44. Nana says:

Thank you, Chrysta. Now I get the whole thing and never have to see it at all.

  45. Chrysta says:

Nana- I assume that comment was sarcastic?

Either way, you’re welcome. If I did such a good job maybe other people will understand the movie better.

I just really hate that people pick apart movies and don’t enjoy them for what they are!

  46. Regin the Radiant says:

It’s okay, but I hate it when my sleep is disturbed by that dumb sinking dinghy

  47. mjc says:

Which is because everyone went to see it and hated it. Duh.

  48. V3RTIGO says:

    This is MADNESS!!!

  49. Cc says:

I love Titanic and Celine Dion is amazing! And to all you guys that think that liking it would make you weak/ gay your wrong. I wish I could find a guy that had the balls to admit it.

    • GardensTale says:

I’m a guy, and yes, I hated much of the movie, partly due to personal stuff (I can’t stand DiCaprio’s face, for some reason) and because the love story put me off rather than drawing me in. Nevertheless, I can be a sap for romance done right (i.e., not shoved in your face glazed with sugar). Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Fountain (I cried for like 20 mins at the end), stuff like that. So I’d admit to liking Titanic if I did. I just can’t stand the film.

      Except for propellor guy.

  50. ashlee says:

I loved the movie. No, the love story in it wasn’t as deep as it might have been, but I think that was just the framework so that the movie didn’t end up being another documentary about the Titanic. I loved this movie because of the special effects and the fact that it stayed as true to history as it could. The love story didn’t get me that much, it was the other characters, the ones that didn’t have names. The irish mother and her kids, the elderly people on the bed… I cried harder for them than anything else. I was crying so hard by the time Jack and Rose were in the water that it was hard to stop. And for those that hate Celine Dion, she only sings during the credits. The remote control has a stop button for a reason.

  51. Jonathan McGarvey says:

That’s cuz you’re American, dude! Lol, we think our opinion makes the world go around. Try asking Asians what they thought of Titanic.

  52. kreepy says:

i think i may be one of 5 people in the universe who actually never watched the movie.

  53. Bill says:

sorry, but i think avatar is the n 1 box office now…

  54. Sarah says:

As of this posting, I’ve seen it 128 times. It’s my #1 favorite ever – and *that* will never be topped by Avatar.

  55. twi-chic says:

OMG i love the titanic movie O_o it makes me cry :(

  56. twi-chic says:

    GO THE TITANIC :) :) :) :) :)

  57. Carlos says:

NOPE! Now it’s Avatar the #1!!!!

But it’s the same thing – nobody (including me) likes it!

  58. SnowWhite says:

Well, sure: if you haven’t watched it, how would you know you didn’t like it? :p

  59. celine dion will always be one of the best singer, she has the unique sounding voice -:*

  60. kaimi says:

Titanic is my favorite movie. Then again, I am a 14 year old girl…

  61. Meh. says:

My favourite part in the whole movie will always be the guy who jumps, only to land on the helix.
    NOW THAT WAS EPIC.

  62. wildgrl says:

the romance could use a little more conviction(i mean, who falls in love like that overnight?) i just got really hookd onto jack cuz he sacrifices everything for a girl he barely just met. now thats committment! the first time i saw it i held in the tears until old rose said “he exists now only in my memories” i broke down
also i think they both would’ve lived if rose shared the board she was on, just sayn
and jack is totally hot! i mean who can resist those blue eyes?
