the romance could use a little more conviction(i mean, who falls in love like that overnight?) i just got really hookd onto jack cuz he sacrifices everything for a girl he barely just met. now thats committment! the first time i saw it i held in the tears until old rose said “he exists now only in my memories” i broke down
also i think they both would’ve lived if rose shared the board she was on, just sayn
and jack is totally hot! i mean who can resist those blue eyes?

I’m a guy, and yes, I hated much of the movie, partly due to personal stuff (I can’t stand DiCaprio’s face, for some reason) and because the love story put me off rather than drawing me in. Nevertheless, I can be a sap for romance done right (i.e., not shoved in your face glazed with sugar). Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Fountain (I cried for like 20 mins at the end), stuff like that. So I’d admit to liking Titanic if I did. I just can’t stand the film.

Except for propellor guy.

I loved the movie. No, the love story in it wasn’t as deep as it might have been, but I think that was just the framework so that the movie didn’t end up being another documentary about the Titanic. I loved this movie because of the special effects and the fact that it stayed as true to history as it could. The love story didn’t get me that much, it was the other characters, the ones that didn’t have names. The irish mother and her kids, the elderly people on the bed… I cried harder for them than anything else. I was crying so hard by the time Jack and Rose were in the water that it was hard to stop. And for those that hate Celine Dion, she only sings during the credits. The remote control has a stop button for a reason.

Yep. The thing about people not admitting it. I loved this movie, saw it once in the theater. I wasn’t a teenager when it came out. I bought it when it came out on VHS. I’ll probably buy the DVD sometime.

To be even more technical, the impending marriage was arranged by her mother and revolved completely around money; he treated her like crap; and she despised him and her social obligations to the point where she attempted suicide. But, meh, I guess she should’ve put up with it and been miserable for the rest of her life. Oh, also, it was not at all difficult to be a woman in the early 20th century and no one can ever possibly be trapped by societal expectations.

Well, anyway, if you’ve really never seen it because you don’t like the concept, that’s cool. But if you’ve avoided it more because of that whole “must-see” thing, then you’re quite silly. And the silliest part is that, while you probably think you’re above media influence, you’re still letting what’s popular dictate what you do and do not see.

I liked the movie, too, but four times was enough. I swore I wouldn’t watch it again until April 2012 (100th anniversary of the sinking, for those of you who are uninformed), but since that’s supposedly “the end of the world” according to some cultures, I may want to do something else with my extra three hours. I am a girl and Titanic is one of my favorite movies. I watched it several times in theatres and own the dvd and have watched it several times, as well as watching it when it comes on tv. But it is also one of my Dad’s favorite movies too, and he isn’t one for chick flicks.

The reason why I love this movie so much is only partly because of the love story. The movie is full of action, tragedy, love, and humor. To me it is a complete package.

The love story is so touching because Rose, who is stuck in a marriage and life that she doesn’t want to be in, finds this guy who seems to care for her more than her husband does without even knowing her at all. In Jack, Rose finds freedom and the love she desires. In Rose, Jack finds the exceptance that he cannot find because of his class level. In that is the saddness of them being torn apart. They both lose something that was so important to them.

The other part of the story is of course the horrible tragedy of Titanic sinking. The lives lost, the horrifying hours of the sinking. Finding compassion for the real people that died.

The rest is just finding compassion for fictional characters put into a horrible situation.

To me it comes down to putting your emotions into these fictional characters or not. If put your heart into these people and imagine yourself in such a situation then maybe you will enjoy the film more.

I can’t stand that people pick movies apart. Oh, this sucked and that sucked… blah.. wah.. boo hoo.
A movie is a movie… just please enjoy it for what it is, and not hate it for what it isn’t.

Since I’ve not seen the movie, I wouldn’t know that, no. I just can’t stand her voice. Too high and reedy for my ears. I much prefer a deeper voice like Karen Carpenter or K D Lang. Celine Dion? Bleugh!

I didn’t care for the characters (boring), romance (I’m gay, even knew it back then), or plot (you kinda know how it’s gonna end) but I think the Titanic was the most beautiful ship ever built, and the technical effects and superb musical score make it stunning to watch. It’s easily one of my top ten favorite movies. You just need a special occasion to watch it because it’s SO FRICKEN LONG.

Yeah, it was much more intense to watch the secondary people, the parts with no names, than anything the main characters may have done. Both the wealthy and the poor. I don’t remember who the millionaire guy was who just sat there, drink in hand, and watched as the water came bursting in. The frozen mother who floats by holding her equally frozen baby, and the Unsinkable Molly Brown, who in history really did have to be threatened to keep her from trying to take on everyone she could into the lifeboat. (The thing couldn’t hold that many!) Jack and Rose? Meh. The people being held behind the gate so the first-classers could get to the boats first? Lordy that scene riled me up!

By no means the worst movie of all time — many things good about it in fact … just don’t think it was worthy of all the hoopla. And if I heard “My Heart Will Go On” one more time ….

Cameron — the first two Terminator movies, Aliens, Abyss … good stuff all, with moments of sheer genius. I am actually looking forward to Avatar, which is either going to be amazing or totally suck, haven’t decided which yet.

As for worst movie EVER, I can even beat Plan 9. Any Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans out there who remember “Manos, the Hand of Fate”? INCREDIBLY horrible, beyond description bad. And then there was “Ator the Fighting Eagle”, which I was watching at a midnight showing when the film broke … and no one cared! Matter of fact, the audience was making up their own dialogue which was far better than what was on screen ….
