Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Why is it so special that he’s gay? There are plenty of actors that are straight that can play gay men really well. So what, it’s their job to act. duh
And the reason he’s awesome is because he doesn’t tell everyone in the world he’s gay. You can be “openly gay” without having to tell everyone.
The other side of that coin is that there are many atrocious examples of straight men in gay characters.

It’s not really that funny. It’s also kinda silly that the captioner wrote gay in different colors.
That was my favorite part, actually.

Acting like a womanizer shouldn’t be any harder for a gay guy than it would be for anyone else who isn’t a womanizer. This LOL doesn’t make sense. In fact, if I was gay, I think I would be a little offended at the idea that being gay should somehow be a hindrance to acting. Does being gay mean you have to act a certain way that is different than being straight? No. So why would changing your behavior be harder for a homosexual?
I think e-bay should be offended. That’s copyright infringement and slander.

Well I’m gay and I watch the show… so I’m ok with that statement.
I’ve never watched the show but this seems a dumb generalization to make.
Also, I never knew he was gay until he came out on TV. He doesn’t sound or look gay to me. That’s because he’s just a guy.

Oddly, I am weirded out and a little offended when people can’t tell I’m gay after having met me (or especially so when I’ve known them for a while). When they finally figure it out I get over it and usually give them a big “Well, DUH!”
What DOES bother me A LOT is when people assume that certain kinds of men are gay that may not be (and probably aren’t). Generally applies to anyone non-masculine (like geeks, artists, eccentrics, etc.)

As for the “convincing womanizer” thing – while excellent acting is a big part of it, it doesn’t hurt that NPH has so much charisma. The man would have chemistry with a door.

My 2 cents … I like this LOL simply because it’s true, and it says a lot about how much the world has changed. Neil Patrick Harris is a great actor – and the fact that he can act so well that the character is still believable even thought the audience knows NPH is playing a part – well, that’s what great acting is.
I am reminded of how Rock Hudson had to be closeted his whole life, even getting married just for show, because no one thought he (or any other gay actor) could play a womanizer or a romantic lead if people knew they were gay. It was a stupid idea then, and it’s still a stupid idea. The personal life of a great actor has nothing to do with their skill as an actor.
Let’s compare say … oh, to someone like Paris Hilton. Now, she couldn’t play a convincing human being on the stage or in film, although I am assured she actually is one. Even with her, however, her personal life has nothing to do with her absolute lack of skill as an actor.
Mr. Harris was fantastic on Broadway in Rent; he’s been great in every movie he’s been in (loved him in Starship Troopers); and I enjoyed him in Doogie Howser. He appears to be doing a sterling job in the few episodes I have watched of HIMYM (not a fan of the show – nothing to do with NPH’s performance).
I wish more people were as honest about themselves and as good at their jobs as Neil Patrick Harris.

Wow, Doogie is gay? I don’t know him as anything but Doogie, never thought he was hot back then or now. Good for him though for making a comeback in his later years.
Making a comment about him being gay seems to push things backwards. Why not just appreciate the fact that he’s a good actor without mentioning his sexuality? The whole point of accepting everyone for who they are is not to point out their sexuality, race, or religion. He’s a good actor because he’s a good actor, not because he is gay.
He’s not saying he’s good because he’s gay. He’s pointing out that a gay man playing someone who is a very convincing straight guy is quite impressive in acting terms.
It would be like Mel Gibson playing a Rabbi. Or Tom Cruise playing a sane guy. Or Keanu Reeves playing someone who can act.
Not that this isn’t ridiculously common in Hollywood. No disrespect meant to NPH, who is fabulous in every role he plays.

(I really couldn’t stop lauhging when I first saw that, because before Starship Troopers, I had only ever seen him in Doogie Howser. And watching ‘Little Doogie’ stride on to a spaceship deck in what can only be called a complete SS outfit had me in fits of giggles for ages!)
Don’t get me wrong – he made a very good SS Officer. But at first glance, it was like watching Big Bird play the part of Hitler, or Brian Cant playing Lord Voldemort.

To be honest, I knew about most of them off the top of my head. The only one I didn’t get what “The Fairy Shoeperson”, because I am not a big Sesame Street guy (being somewhat older than the average demographic).
I knew about Starship Troopers, How I Met Your Mother, Spiderman, Family Guy, Dr Horrible, Spiderman and Harold and Kumar, and was fairly sure he had been in Blossom once (I watched it a lot when I was younger).
And, on a related note, I am starting to think my brain retains FAR TOO MUCH trivial information about a lot of things.

NPH has always been a great actor. What differentiates him from other child/teen actors is, he just kept on working after Doogie Howser ended. He didn’t whine about getting smaller parts or lament his lot in life – he just kept on acting in various roles, large or small. So now I think he deserves any bit of fame he can get. And he gay? That just means I will now feel guilty about marrying him in my dreams.
