One of the core concepts of humor is the juxtaposition of the expected and the occuring (which is unexpected). With Lucy, the unexpected (that an adult will act like a giant 5-year-old) becomes the expected, which causes the humor to kinda fall flat.

You know, most of Scott Adams’ characters are white because he likes characters with gaping flaws (Wally’s laziness, Alice’s temper) and if they’re of a minority people interpret it as racism (even though Asok’s only flaw is his lack of experience, many people managed to take offense at it). Much of the humor in I Love Lucy is derived from her ineptitude at everything, which, while conceivably sexism, is most likely simply the way the character was designed to have as much humor potential as possible.

The good old days, when woman could be openly treated like crap, when one didn’t need reason to arrest or harass black (or non-white, really) people, when the most exciting thing you could do most days was wonder if the russians would finally put their 60ies asses out of their miseries, when media was so sanitized that saying the world “bum” deserved capital punishment, violence was so fake you had to push you imagination to the limit in order to believe it and everyone had to wear 5 layers of clothing at all times or be lynched to death.

Oh, the good ole days. Reminds me of those other lovely times. What was it? Oh yeah! The Dark Age.

Actually a lot of people would agree with you (see above comments) the idea is that one posts a picture with a caption that makes one look at the picture in a new light, thus evoking humour (such as a picture of Edward Scissorhands with the caption “An Emo Wolverine”

I didn’t mind Rocky and Bullwinkle. I liked Get Smart, can’t remember much of Gilligan’s Island (Although I can kind of remember when I was young going into an Electrical shop with my parents and looking at the TVs and seeing Gilligan’s Island on one of them.) I didn’t really like Bewitched or the Brady Bunch and hated I Love Lucy (Although I do accept that without her and Desi Arnaz we wouldn’t have Star Trek, their company was the only one brave enough to take on Star Trek, I believe it was rejected by several companies before they came to Desilu Studios.)

I am 30 so I missed the 50′s (obviously!) and I still think she was the funniest woman ever in showbiz. Period. IMHO.

Secondly, she did on occaision use current pop culture references. Anyone remember when she went to Ricky’s “girlfriend’s” house on the excuse of a fake survey? The old woman answered the door and when Lucy said she was a survey taker, the old lady said “Your name ain’t Kinsey, is it?”
I didn’t get that line but my grandpa cracked up at it and had to explain it to me.
