    First!

  2. Zok says:

I never hard a problem with vista.
    I was so close.

    • Zok says:

      had a problem*

      • xunil says:

Seems like you’re already having problems.

        • P says:

          Typos never happened before vista!

Only problem with vista: Mac started a mud slinging campaign that would make any politician jealous.

When XP came out the advice from any IT person: Use 98SE. After XPsp1 came out, it became much more stable and 90% of the issues went away. Same with Vista. SP1 came out and it’s been solid ever since.

          • P says:

And the other 10% can be taken care of by:

            1) Learning where things moved to (takes a couple of days, but it is much more streamlined)

            2) using an anti-virus (the OS even notifies you if there is an issue with an out-of-date AV, or disabled one.) AVG is free and works.

            3) Upgrading to SP2 (Out now).

            • Athanar says:

Exactly. I got my laptop with Vista after SP1 came out and never had problems with it. A friend of mine’s parents got a computer with Vista when it first came out, and they hated Vista. They saw how well mine worked and were surprised and somewhat impressed by what the good Vista does. (They had downgraded to XP by then.)

            • The Amazing Rando says:

I haven’t had problems with Vista exactly, but I just don’t LIKE it. Frankly I find it far less user friendly than XP, which I always liked. My wife has Windows 7 on her new laptop, and she seem to like it. No issues thus far.

          • WorldsTallestMidget says:

            You sir, were lucky.
I had Vista (with SP 1) and it CONSTANTLY gave me problems! My computer would randomly reboot, would constantly lock up, and REFUSED to get along with both Firefox and my printer driver!
Amazingly, when I did a clean install with Windows 7, ALL PROBLEMS went away. No more rebooting, no more locking up, and now Firefox and my printer are happy.
Vista was the greatest thing that could’ve happened to Apple and Linux. I almost abandoned them, but 7 is really good.

  3. Legalize It says:

Never knew windows vista was a book..

  4. Ghostwish says:

People who know nothing about computer operating systems and choose to remain ignorant will always have problems with computers, regardless of the OS.

I’ve had windows vista 64-bit (frequently called premium because microsoft thinks it sells better) for the better part of 2 years now on my laptop.

    No complaints.

    • FadedLY says:

Very true! You have to admit, Vista is a bit of a pain to maneuver around in, if you’re already a very advanced PC user. Vista was primarily designed around “newbie friendly” Windows usage, so those people wouldn’t worry about “messing something up”.

I can mess around with anything and do everything to my Windows XP Pro. I have 2 experiences with Vista (mostly, helping older relatives or friends with setting up their network connections) and the OS just treats you like a child. I know – 2 experiences isn’t much, but I couldn’t stand it. I have a big problem with a PC telling me it knows what’s best for it and I should go away. ;)

      • Athanar says:

That’s the one thing I don’t like about Vista. I just wish you could turn off the UAC without it letting you know every 30 seconds.

        • The Amazing Rando says:

I get really annoyed that every time a program has a problem that Vista “tries to find a solution.” I don’t need your help, Vista!!!

  5. factory says:

    OS X… just sayin…

    • xunil says:

      FAIL…… Just sayin…

    • solidsnake204 says:

      OS X? The pretty-much-like-Linux-but-you-have-to-pay-for-it OS X?

      • factory says:

        Exactly.
Windows (the-pretty-much-like-OSX) is free now? No one told me…

        • Angry_Hamst3r says:

you dont know much about OS’s now, do you?
Yah…. Go at least to Wikipedia and read some stuff, it will benefit you in your future life (and also do not express these opinions in public, cause getting loled at IRL hurts much worse than on the Internet).

    • P says:

Lets go in the wayback machine to when OSX was released.

Programs made for OS9 stopped working. Apples response: We don’t support that anymore.

Many systems can’t support OSX and have “issues”. Apples response: Buy a new system.

Massive change in the UI and how the system works. Apples Response: Get use to it.

Boy these sound familiar! Except in the case of Windows: They recommend updating components (get a new vid card) over buying a whole new machine… Go figure, Microsoft is a software company, Apple is a hardware company… And MS didn’t launch a mud-slinging campaign.

      • factory says:

Dude, this is a neverending war…

      • Dysan says:

Actually I applauded Apple when they said with OSX that they were NOT going to be having backwards compatibility. Because it took guts, but some times you have to change at a base level how the system works. Ie they switched to the Linux kernel.

If you look at the root causes of most of the bugs/problems with windows, I’d say over half of them come from solutions/features that are there to try and guarantee backwards compatibly.

  6. Thomas says:

    Linux… Just sayin…

  7. Savage says:

    No, it’s not that bad.

  8. Rob says:

Blah blah blah. I’ve had Vista pretty much ever since it came out, and I have nothing but nice things to say about it.

  9. Jester says:

I’ve had a Vista PC since before Service Pack 1. I had some problems early on, but Microsoft fixed them. I actually prefer it to XP. XP’s only advantage is it can run on PCs with limited resources.

I’ve never worked on Mac OS, but if it runs like iTunes (slowly), I don’t want anything to do with it.

    • Athanar says:

Mac OSX is actually pretty good. Can be a little confusing at first, but it’s pretty good when you’re used to it. (I’ve used it on friends’ computers.) Runs iTunes faster than Windows does, too. (I prefer WMP over iTunes anyway.)

  10. Falkus says:

Vista has had the same bad things said about that every version of Windows before it has had said about them. I remember saying I’ll never get windows, dos forever for the same reasons people hate vista. Well what am I using now. Vista had the same teething problems that XP, 98, 95, 3.x did, just that no one remembers.

    • The Amazing Rando says:

We do remember, which is why we’re always so scared of the new version of Windows. My issue isn’t technical problems with Vista. I just don’t like it compared to XP.

  11. Shane says:

So when you got vista you went to an open field and destroyed the printer from your office?

I don’t think vista is your problem

    • Chinchillas–moresoft4U says:

      Why sure it is.
Problem: Old printer wouldn’t work with new Vista OS. It is ‘Obsolete’

      Fix: Install Windows XP.

Thus: New Vista OS is the problem.
      :D

  12. Quarxyz says:

    I prefer Windows 95.

  13. potpiekitty says:

I have Vista on my laptop, and not really had any problems.
The only two minor things are that Firefox and it doesn’t seem to get along, but that happened with one of my laptops that had XP2 as well.
The other is that my old printer doesn’t work with it.
But then I have 4 GB RAM and a 500 GB memory on this laptop so that probably helps a lot.

    • Athanar says:

Really? FF works well on mine, and that’s with 21 addons…

Old printer… Maybe you can let the computer try to find some updated drivers for it? I know my parents’ computer did that with one of our old printers when we plugged it in and didn’t have drivers. (We wanted to see if we could do anything, and it worked.)

      • potpiekitty says:

I have no idea why I always have so much problems with FF. I obviously love it more than it loves me =(
In the last few days it totally decided it didn’t want to start at all, and would just hang in limbo before even bringing up the home page. Once I got to home page (google), all is good to go.
Also has a weird glitch with yahoo – if I bring up my email, I get a multiple layer header of my toolbars stacked one on top of the other, down to about half the page. This doesn’t happen in other browsers – IE, Safari, or Opera.
I downloaded the driver off the printer site, and that doesn’t work any better than the CD that came with it.
        Thanks for the suggestions though.

    • WorldsTallestMidget says:

I had the SAME PROBLEMS! Added to your list was my computer constantly locking up and randomly rebooting.
I installed Windows 7, and ALL of my problems have disappeared.
      I highly recommend Windows 7.

  14. potpiekitty says:

That’s one of my favorite scenes from this movie though.

  15. Tourist on this planet says:

Ya gotta admit, though, this is the best scene from that movie, which is full of good scenes!

  16. Josey says:

    *cough* I use Ubuntu…

  17. Alex says:

This is irrelevant to my interests.
Because Windows Vista is outdated now.

    • The Amazing Rando says:

Tell that to my sad, weak little laptop.

    • WorldsTallestMidget says:

Ummm, Windows 7 has been out for only one month and Vista is suddenly “outdated?”
Many people have reverted back to XP because of how badly Vista performed, so to be honest Vista AND XP are the current norm.

      • Scythelord says:

Windows 7 will quickly become the norm. It is far better than anything previous. There is no reason to hold onto XP at this time unless you are a poor bastard without the cash for hardware newer than 2003.

  18. Lady Ice says:

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta

  19. Zig says:

I have Windows 7, upgraded from Vista with the cheap student promo. Seems 90% the same, a little fancier and runs smoother, good stuff so far. I’m excited to see the new Google OS

  20. ASock says:

XP was the bomb. Can’t wait for Windows 7! Have to go download… BRB.

  21. s.a.r. member says:

vista was sooo pretty, ate up all the memory in my comp(graphics take up alot of room,) and i always had some add-on to download. went back to xp, not as pretty but easier on the ram.

btw: office space was the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!
“the nazis had flair they made jews wear.”

  22. WorldsTallestMidget says:

Have had it for a few weeks now. Have had NONE of the problems I had with Vista. I really like it.

  23. Pam says:

Lolz, and Windows 7 is just as bad. Don’t get your hopes up kiddies.

Get Snow Leopard. Solves all your problems 100%

  24. yes, but windows 7 is great. try it!

  25. Hakenkat says:

    it’s alright :)

  26. potpiekitty says:

Clarification – NONE of my sites have malware on them. SOME adult sites do.

  27. ethana2 says:

Security is a property an operating system’s code base, not some app you run on top of it.

  28. Scythelord says:

Windows is secure. Users disable security. Their fault.

  29. NorthernTerror says:

Windows doesn’t even even resemble secure.

OS/2 was secure. BeOS can be made secure. Windows has built-in security holes big enough for an aircraft carrier to do a u-turn.
