The reason the movie seemed stupid and over the top to you is because Joss Wheton had 120 minutes to sum up a whole Sci-Fi series he enjoyed making with a talented and well meshed cast.

Firefly was canceled because of a few reasons. Bad ratings were the ‘public’ excuse, but Fox showed the episodes out of order (the pilot was showed LATE in the season, for gods’ sake!), put it into a timeslot against an already incredibly popular show, and then didn’t do much of a job advertising, if I remember rightly. Mostly, it’s agreed that the Fox execs idn’t understand it, didn’t like, and were pretty well dead-set on killing the show in the cradle.

Try responding to someone/something with “shiny” and just watch the person you are talking to just keep on going and then 20 seconds later stop in the middle of a word and ask ” did you just make a firefly reference?”

Its almost as good as when people say ” Can i ask you a question” and you automatically answer “42″ whithout hearing said question…

I just finished watching Firefly last week. I had gotten them from Netflix and blew through them. I watched the whole disc in one sitting, sent it back, and counted the minutes till the next one came. Then I watched Serenity, which I had purposely kept myself from watching until I saw all of Firefly. I am still depressed about Wash, and probably will be for a while.

I think we are out of luck for a new movie, or another season of episodes (my heart swells with hope for the latter), but the truth is, there is no more,

I saw Serenity first, and I used to watch it over and over again, then about a year later I realised there was a tv series and I’ve never looked back.

I think people see it as a typical SciFi and a lot of people don’t like sci fi. Like I would have to twist the arms of half my friends for them to even look at the cover.

It’s not typical Sci Fi.

It should have gotten more of a chance.

Bad ratings supposedly. Given that I’ve not heard a bad word about Firefly from anyone who’s actually watched it, and the only bad words I heard about Serenity were from “film critics” who were sure to bad mouth the film because it was science fiction…

He does a fantastic job in Halo 3: ODST.

There are a few hints in that game that he may also appear in Halo: Reach. It’s fun having him in a SciFi environment again
