Saw a commentary cartoon on deviantart right after he was killed. A little chibi Steve was holding an upset stingray and saying “It’s alright, mate” . Made me blubber like a baby. He probably would have said that, too. Dang, misting up here again. I miss that crazy SOB

I could not possibly care less about celebrity or popularity… Really… The fact that lots of people just loved Steve Irwin has no bearing what so ever on the fact that I liked and respected him…
Feel free to dislike who ever you want… but as I stated already… my issue is the way some people seem to celebrate the death of a person who tried to do something good.
There is a difference between “I don’t like him” and “Oh Yeah!!! I am so glad he’s dead!”… or “His death is so funny…”
Something like that says far more about your character than my offense to it does against mine.

Well, his daughter is embarassing! My family used to live in Japan and when we went there, all our American friends asked us if we knew about him, we were like “Who?”. No-one in Australia really knew about him until a few years ago. Also he was one of those things that you are embarrassed about sometimes but you were really proud of it too.

I only-half agree with you, Steve Irwin was an amazing person but that was just wrong, dangling his child in front of a crocodile. Btw I`m Australian and the Australian media made a big hoo-hah about it.

I totally agree there.
He would have never wanted people to take vengeance on those beautiful creatures.
You can’t blame the sting ray, it is a wild animal, all wild animals are unpredictable. No matter how good you are, you don’t KNOW what they are really going to do next. And, I think Steve knew that.

The baby / croc thing was a media beat up – The croc was some distance from the baby, only due to foreshortening of the camera view did it look like he was being reckless

He was a genuine person, with amazing enthusiasm and without artifice – which is why he became famous

(I remember Jay Leno reminiscing about the end of his first interview with Steve. When the cameras were off and Steve Irwin still acted like a kid on caffeine at Christmas Jay realised “My God, this isn’t an act, he really is like that”) – the world needs more people like him
