This man is amazingly adorable and talented, and that accent is to faint for
I’m a dude but I agree with the talent part. And the accent made his lines so memorable.
Give me a tall good look Elf anytime!
Glad to know I’m not alone. XD I thought he was so cute and charming.
what about midgets?
I did a page search for midget and found this. I knew someone would be me to it. =(
What about little people? Or are they not ‘real’ enough to count?
what about the smurfs?
Hey, Pippin was definitely well over 3′ by the end, thanks to the Ent draught.
Hobbits FTW!
But technically, in the Two Towers movie, after drinking the Ent draught Pippin says: “Please Merry. You’re what, three foot six? At the most? Whereas me, I’m pushing three seven, three eight.” I only know because I always LOL at that part, even after seeing it twenty times.
*Ends super-nerd moment
Thank you, fellow LotR nerd! I was all set to quote that line myself. ^_^
Ditto. Thanks!
Double ditto!
for realz @ Tyler and K.
As for Billy, yummy scrumboes!
oh i <3 him!!! so cute!!!!
ok i stop fangirly moment now..
Very interesting, thanks for sharing…
if you’re going to claim to be a LOTR nerd, at least quote the BOOKS, not the friggin movie since PJ got so much wrong, including the Hobbit’s height.
Both Merry and Pippin grew to over 4’5″ after drinking the Ent Draught making them the tallest Hobbits ever recorded, breaking the previous record of Bandobras “Bullroarer” Took.
PJ didn’t get anything “wrong”. He made a bunch of excellent movies. If you want to see what happens if you take books too literally, look at Chamber of Secrets. Worst film ever.
Sorry – this comment is such a fail. BOOKS are the original and they are supposed to be taken literally (oh man, that is such an awesome pun). PJ may have made some good movies loosely based on the books, but in order to truly be a true LOTR nerd and to truly understand with the AUTHOR (you know – the guy who actually created the whole Middle Earth World – yeah, that guy), you HAVE to have read the books. Quoting movies does not make you a nerd.
Hmm, think I overused the word “truly” a bit? Sorry about that.
Actually, I’m a fan of both the books AND the films, and as this is a photograph of Billy Boyd playing Pippin, which is therefore referencing the movie, to me it made more sense to quote the movie.
More nerd love, less nerd rage, kids.
(And before you insult fans of the films again, I would like to point out that while Peter Jackson did alter the plot, at times infuriatingly and near-inexcusably, for the most part he did a fantastic job portraying heart and soul of Middle Earth.)
You, sir or madam, win.
Yes he did, because he editted out stuff that was vital to the story, like the Barrowdowns and the Scouring of the Shire, and put in stuff he made up himself (like Frodo’s side trip to Osgiliath).
Jackson cut out the Barrowdowns scene to spare the entire world the agony of experiencing a film version of High Fantasy’s single most gawdawful character, Tom “hey-diddly-hi-diddly-ho-FlandersCanSuckMyBalls-diddly” Bobmadil, the inclusion of which would have secured the poor bastard saddled with acting the part a permanent berth in Hell, not to mention unquestionably dropped-kicking the entire LOTR franchise from ever seeing the slightest Academy Award consideration.
Actually a film is a director’s take on the book or script. That’s why it’s called his or her film, and not the person who wrote it (whether he helped in the writing or not). So really there is no right answer since they aren’t compelled to take the book and film it as it is. If PJ filmed the entire story as is – it would have taken eight films and more money than anyone would have put up. That made him pick and choose from parts. I wish he hadn’t changed some facts as they were (it was Merry who figured out the riddle of the door to Moria, and Frodo who was throwing rocks in the water). He had to switch that to emphasize Merry’s foolishness and make Frodo look smarter (his words – not mine). That’s just he way films work. Unfortunately, it pisses off the purists when they take liberties.
I believe Boromir threw a rock in the water outside of the Doors of Moria.
Okay then: “Their height is variable, ranging between two and four feet of our measure” (Prologue). I reserve the right to call myself an LOTR nerd.
I agree, the books are better than the movies, but all books are better than their film counterparts. This scene was just particularly memorable. However, Jackson made three stunning movies. It is impossible to make them perfectly align to the books, because then they would be 12 hours long and impossible to watch. In my opinion, the movies, while not perfect, are still fantastic.
He’s no Samwise, but he’s cute.
That song he sings in Denethor’s hall is so haunting. And it’s so awesome that Billy wrote it himself – he’s got a wonderful voice.
That’s one of my fave parts of the entire movie… that song with the battle raging in the background. Amazing.
Billy is WAY cute, I love Pippin, but I have to agree — Sam is my guy! And TolkeinGeek appears to be very aptly named — I’m sorry you feel that Mr. Jackson desecrated your beloved books, but most of us (and yes, I HAVE read them all several times) feel he did a fine job with the films, changing some of the details but fully keeping the spirit. That WAS a very funny bit in the film with the Entdraught, and I was hoping someone would quote it.
ummm…. the average for a hobbit is 3’6” btw. just saying.he was 3’8” after the ent draught.
Pervy hobbit fanciers, all of you! ^,^
I love both the books and the movies. And I certainly wish I had been picturing Viggo Mortensen all these years while reading the books…yum!
Billeh!
I can find anyone attractive that I want.
Unless they’ve suddenly gone through with prosecuting thoughtcrime…
Of course they have – say the word “f*g” or “ni**er” or whatever while committing a crime and get umpteen years tacked onto your sentence.
He’s sooooooooooooooo cute!!!! Can I take him home?
Isn’t he the cutest?
He’s one of the most talented actors around in my opinion.
<3 cutest
Awwwz, I love Pippin (&& Billy Boyd ^^) But he’s older than my dad, sooo part of me thinks “ick”.
Still one of my favorite movie characters & actor though, such a funny guy
