The Evolution of Lady GaGa

Stefani Germanotta (alias: Lady GaGa) bursts onto the pop scene and makes a highly memorable first impression. At first, it seems people are more interested in talking about her avant garde outfits and the “Lady GaGa persona” than they are about her music.

SUCCESSFUL
Because even when they’re talking about how crazy you are, they’re still talking about you.

After releasing 5 consecutive #1 singles, it becomes clear that GaGa is about more than just crazy outfits and juicy rumors. She takes her new album, The Fame Monster, on the road, with total world domination as her goal. And judging by the size of that gun…she’s either very happy to see her audience, or she’s very close to accomplishing her mission.

The payoff: GaGa’s perfect storm of music, fashion, and personality wins her two Grammy awards (and a duet with legend Elton John at the ceremony). Always one to top herself, it is unclear whether or not her awards will be melted down and made into oversized earrings and/or nipple pasties in the shape of David Bowie’s face.

these’ll make the perfect addition to my next outfit.

  1. Mr. J says:

I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of her stuff. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. Oh, and firs… Nah. I’m not going to say it.

    • paws4thot says:

I don’t know that I have heard any, or that I haven’t, all of which suggests that she’s not terrible, but not actually good either.

  2. You don't want to know says:

She’s got talent, it just isn’t showing.

    • Ignatz says:

Too right. I saw a video of her at a NYU talent contest, just her and a piano, and she was quite good. Overproduced spectacle has its place in pop music, has since the ’70s (Elton John and Alice Cooper come to mind), but personally I find it distracting.

  3. Ghostwish says:

And after she goes the way of all pop stars, I wonder if anyone is going to care anymore?

  4. casprd says:

Elton John is a good comparison. Every time I see her that is what I think also. She’s certainly got talent. Some of her stuff is a little too mainstream techno pop and overproduced for my taste, but there was a time when EJ was writing annoying bubble gum pop also. Who knows what the test of time will bring,

  5. NoImagination says:

The Fame was real mainstream crap, but The Fame Monster is brilliant!
    LOVE those captions btw.

    • Mija says:

Why is it that so many people feel the need to hate all that is “mainstream”? Just because it is popular, doesn’t mean it’s automatically bad. Perhaps the public just wisened up temporarily… Though I must agree, The Fame Monster shows more of her personality. :)

    • mimamoo says:

      I thought so too!
Pokerface is the worst I heard in quite a time,
but she can do pretty good stuff too..

  6. cyrus says:

She’s a mediocre musician, no matter how much she sells. I kinda doubt she even writes her own musics. It’s music created to sell. If she’s such a great singer, how come after a couple months, her songs ain’t listened anymore? At least, not the same songs… She’s pathetic.

    • gow says:

wow your a tard At age 17, Lady Gaga gained early admission to the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. There, she studied music and improved her songwriting skills by composing essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion and socio-political order.

need more proof she is alot smarter than you.

      • Ghostwish says:

        ^^^^

Someone who does not have a college education, apparently.

It isn’t THAT hard to get, smart one.

        • Ghostwish says:

Oh, and also, a college education doesn’t infer any many of talent. She can have as many degrees as she likes. Her music is still poor, obvious marketing. Cyrus is right.

      • Mija says:

Hehehe…”she is ALOT smarter than you.” Let me just savor that grammatical wonder for a moment…

    • Monster says:

Lady Gaga writes ALL of her songs. Every single song on The Fame & The Fame Monster Lady Gaga wrote. You must not know a lot because her little monsters never stop listening to her songs. In her concerts she dances insanely but can still sing unlike a lot of artists. Gaga NEVER lip sings. She plays the piano by ear(she learned that when she was 4). And YOU’RE pathetic for being a liar. STFU

  7. Mina says:

Sometimes you have to do what it takes to first get the spotlight, and then you can be more flexible with your art once you have their attention.

  8. gloworm says:

Why does her face look okay in some pictures but in others she looks like a foot? It’s like 2-face or something.

  9. thestashattacked says:

Is it just me, or are her bangs really crooked in the first picture? I’d almost think she was wearing a wig…

  10. KG says:

Y’know, the outfits would be fine if she backed them up with great music (like Bowie did), but as is they just seem like a desperate cry for attention that an over-marketed, under-talented music industry was more than happy to respond to.

By the way, when she did the duet with Elton John, did she really think no one would notice the contrast between singing with proper technique (him) and shouting through your nose (her)?

    • mille says:

um… this is 2010. compared to most mainstream musicians, she’s hella talented.

      …idealistic, much?

      • Lolhuman says:

so just because most mainstream musicians suck, i need to lower my standards? surely not.

there will always be good musicians, those will never disappear. so i will never have to listen to crap like her music.

        • mille says:

calm down; i was simply poking fun at the “AHHHH MUSIC IS DEAD PROBABLY BECAUSE IT’S NOT FROM MY TIME AHHHHH *elitistwhine*” mindset that is so tediously common on this site.

  11. mojojo says:

the first picture looks like she has doritos in her hair.

Anyways…when I saw her on the grammys actually playing a piano and singing rather just the spectacle that normally ensues around her, I thought for the first time that she might actually have some musical training. She should stick to the piano/singing combo and not the schtick.

    • Mel says:

I agree. She has a pretty voice, but the whole pop background music, and how they change the way her voice sounds, it’s hard to tell.

Oh, and that last picture, the outfit looks somewhat cool until the shoes just destroyed it. It’s like she’s walking around with rocks attached.

  12. PhantomLord says:

i really dont know why she got so famous.she just isn’t any different than any other mainstream cheap slutty “artist” of today

  13. Drazhar says:

She actually can sing, she actually knows how to market herself. She actually is still a publicity whore just like the next one. She did not do any groundbreaking. Is showing up in ridiculous costumes to every public stunt anything truly extravagant in today’s world? Really people, she is just a nobody who desperately wants attention. Everybody will be hooked on her just until next idiot with even more ludicrous gimmick surfaces. That’s all there is to it. Thank you and have a pleasant, Gaga-free evening.

  14. Crystallia says:

She’s still mediocre, insane, and ugly.

  15. HeavyKitty says:

Oh, come, ON. Lady GaGa wants world domination does she? That was freaking Madonna’s goal! Stupid new celebrities, using crap from old celebrities nobody these days remembers and then profiting off of them.

  16. Mr. JG says:

She’s talented. I like her, I like her music, both the piano performances and the techno “crap” (just because you don’t like it, it doesn’t mean it’s crap ._.). It makes me feel good. I like her voice. I love her, her personaliy, outfits, everything.
I don’t mind her face, actaully I think she’s pretty. I laughed at this.
I won’t stop liking her even if people get bored. As long as she’s working, and making music, it’s OK.
Just because someone did something before, it doesn’t mean everyone that also does it will be a copy.
To be short: she’s an entertainer, and she entertains me. That’s all. No need to argue or fight over TASTES. People have different TASTES, and that’s all.
    No fighting ._.

  17. d says:

Yeah, because you are a success when people talk about the crap you “sing”. She’s ugly and completely untalented. She does have one talent: she does know how to market herself…but so do prostitutes and I have more respect for them. Some of them are very talented for what I know XD

  18. It is kinda hard to look past all the glitter and weird outfits to actually appreciate her songs. Her music is not really that awful; it’s bearable. It’s catchy, at the very least.

  19. Heli says:

I love her music, she’s really good.
