Agreed. When Orlando wears one in RotK, he just comes off looking like a fairy.
I salute you too. Agent Elrond Mitzi del Bra Smith
Epic!
eldar spotted, proceed with caution!
Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson…
Apparently, Hugo actually did something like that while shooting “Return of the King”. He knew Viggo was a big Matrix fan, so he pulled out the shades and the accent in one scene. Hugo stood up, pulled off his hood, and said “You can’t fool me with that Dunedain costume Mr. Anderson!” Took poor Viggo a while to stop giggling.
“What use is a ring, Mr. Baggins, if you don’t have any fingers to put it on?”
technically its NOT a tiara…it’s a circlet, which is gender neutral.
Whenever I see Hugo Weaving, my mind goes immediately to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert… so I have a hard time seeing him as manly. XD
PQotD was the first time I had ever encountered him as an actor. When I saw Agent Smith, I made the hand gesture Mitzi does during “I will survive” to my friends with me, and they knew exactly what I meant when I recognized him.
And when Elrond is weeping at the wedding, my first thought was “you go, Mitzi!”
I dunno….he wasn’t so badass when he played a drag queen in the movie “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. It was a great role and very very funny, but not badass in the masculine sense.
Yes, he was very, very awesome in ‘Priscilla.’ Therefore, IMO, Mr. Weaving is even more badass as a matter of principle.
I don’t know…I think his character strapping a pair on and taking responsibility for his son could be viewed as pretty “badass” in the masculine sense.
Actually, this is a diadem. Tiaras stick up. However – nicely done anyhow, Mr. Weaving.
IIRC Diadems hang loosely over the head and brow like chain mail and with some ear rings would be so FAAAABBUULLLOOUUUUSSS!!!
Your definition of ‘badass’ is flawed. That guy looks like a total douch.
“That guy” – Your knowledge of movies is flawed.
As Stephen Fry will tell you, looks are only part of acting. Hugo Weaving is badass. Him (supposedly) looking like a douche does not change that.
that’s called a diadem not a tiara
well it doesn’t really matter for the point that is made in the caption.
Yes it does. Diadems, and circlets, are non-gender specific. They were even worn on the battle field.
Just because you don’t know the difference doesn’t mean there isn’t a difference.
….am I the only one who thinks Hugo Weaving is fugly?
Yes. Yes, you are.
And Elrond! The headband? It’s a little 1985 – but that’s cool….
Kate — total agreement there, Mitzi stepped up to the plate big time, and had more cojones than any other male there (with the possible exception of Bernadette’s new flame … ) As for looks, Hugo is not traditionally handsome, but I’ll take interesting over cookie cutter any day. And diadem, tiara or whatever, you have to admit it takes a certain panache to pull off filigree, not to mention a rosy/lavendar tunic … You go, Mr. W.!
but he’s not a badass…
not even remotely, just just looks gay there, simple as that.
And while we’re talking about badass, let’s not forget “V”. It’s tue badassery that can make an character awesome only through the voice.
WTF? That should be MARTH! Marth is the ONLY MAN IN EXISTENCE to be manly while wearing a tiara.
I lol’d
SO TRUE! ONLY MARTH CAN BE EPICLY MANLY IN A TIARAR!
HI! WHAT THE HECK?!
2nd on Marth being the manliest in a tiara. Marth’s is the supreme manly man.

That is a circlet and circlets are perfectly acceptable male headgear in the fantasy genre! Lol
