O.o Stephen King is one of the best writers I have read, I am a big fan of his, I’ve even met him. I honestly think his works are amazing, I know not everyone likes his books, but at least respect the ONLY man with the label KING of horror.

Actually, I agree. But he looks a lot better now than he did when he was younger. He doesn’t flash those teeth as much anymore. I do love his books, though. Have read all but the Dark Tower series.

Hello? Whats wrong with you people ? He is an excellent writer.You have to read more than the first and last pages to know what they are about! And if you pay attention you can connect one book to another.And watching the movie on TV is NOT the same as actually reading the book.

Unfortunately I agree. A PERCENTAGE of his books are good, a low percentage. I guess if you’re gonna write as many books as he has, there better be a few good ones in the mix.

What’s with the Stephen King hating? He HAS made genre leaps… The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption ring a bell? (Although it was called Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption) Not saying he’s magnificent, I enjoy his work although it takes some time getting into his stories.

The Stand (unabridged version) is so far the longest novel I’ve ever read. My dad’s actually re-read it multiple times; it’s his favorite Stephen King novel. Don’t know how he can stand to do that (no pun intended. OK, maybe a little intended)
Meanwhile I loved the Dark Tower saga. It got pretty bizarre and contrived in the last couple of novels, but overall was an amazing mix of fantasy, Western, action, sci-fi, romance and it sucked me in for the few months I spent reading all 7 novels back-to-back. But I’ll admit, the novel Insomnia can cure insomnia (I’ll give it its props for its deep connection to Dark Tower though)

While I agree with you entirely, I actually like the way Barker does the gross-out thing. No, I don’t find it that scary, but I do find it emotionally effective and I’ve always felt Barker was more about psychological weirdness than making you afraid of the dark.
