  1. DrPluton says:

I call this “ReSpocking” our depleting science fiction casts.

    • Tigerlily10 says:

      lmao. like it.
      best film of 2009.

      • BAReFOOt says:

Are you kidding? It was a retarded film. First the “we throw Kirk out to die” WTF. Then the “old Spock” WTF. And in the end the giant “A tiny drop of red mass destroys an entire planet, but hey, I’m Spock, and I’m going to drive a ship with a huge ball of that stuff on board right into a trans-dimensional/-time space ship hanging between two dimensions.” and “Yes and I’m Kirk, and I won’t run in panic of it realistically destroying at least two universes/times, but stay put” MEGAWTF.

Yes. The “best” film, if you got no brain at all, and can put up with one of the biggest and most obvious plot WTFAILS in the history of film making.

        • Rando the Awesome says:

It’s not really worth having a stroke over, dude.
And weak plot aside, it was a truly awesome movie.

        • Why? says:

It actually made Star Trek watchable and relevant again. The last ST film, ‘Nemesis’ made $67 million worldwide, while the 2009 film brought in almost $400 million. Movies are a business like anything else. Why would they care about a handful of finicky fanboys when your average moviegoer is worth so much more?

          • NoOneInteresting says:

While I agree with your statement that the 2009 movie brought new life to the franchise, saying it’s good because it made more money is definitely a flawed argument. You can’t tell how good a movie is just by how much money it makes *cough*Avatar*cough*

            • Dur. says:

Is bashing Avatar the “it” thing to do right now? Sure it wasn’t “ZOMG Best Movee Evar” as the Avatards claim it to be and the plot was scarcely original, but it was still a pretty good movie.

And ’09 Star Trek was awesome. I’ll just ignore you whiny fanboys that nitpick over everything.

        • ai says:

Actually, there aren’t many films with strong plots. This one was much better than most of 2009 films and the cast was a bonus.

          • Rando the Awesome says:

It was a pretty awesome cast. I thought they did a great job. Plus, eye candy for both genders.

            • birdtrouble says:

Agreed. Zachary Quinto pulled off the “Spock” quite well. The rest of the cast was quite awesome as well. And sanctimonious fanboys aside, this Trekkie loved the new Star Trek. I am a card carrying double dorkified geek and I thought it was GREAT. So yeah…rants about it sucking…FAIL. Celebrate the good points. Be happy that due to renewed public interest in the Star Trek franchise there may be more quality Star Trek universe material coming our way in the future. The proles may be monkeying with your motor, but they’re also helping it run.

and on a side note: Rando the Awesome, your name is the Awesome. I like it.

        • charro says:

Do you know what “Suspension of Disbelief” is? Learn it. Use it. Love it.

        • roa says:

Wow, you clearly had very poor comprehension of what was going on, or you weren’t paying attention at all. Did you even watch it? Here’s what you got wrong:
          1. Kirk was not thrown out to die. He was thrown out to a Star Fleet occupied planet, and had he waited in his shuttle like the computer told him to, he would have never been in danger.

          2. Yes, because old Spock traveled back in time. Time travel happens a lot in Star Trek. You might try watching it sometime.

          3. What two dimensions are you talking about? Nero’s ship wasn’t hanging between two dimensions. It came from the future and created an alternate timeline, similar to the plot of Back 2 the Future 2. It was never in between dimensions. It never even came from a different one to start with.

          4. The red matter did one thing and one thing only- it made black holes. Had you been paying attention when Vulcan was destroyed, you would have known that. When all of the red matter imploded, it made a black hole in the ship. It did not open a gateway to another dimension, and even if it had, it wouldn’t have risked destroying it.

          5. A theory exists that if you travel through a black hole you will travel through time. I don’t believe Star Trek is the first franchise to use this theory, but I’m sure they won’t be the last.

          6. No, Kirk wouldn’t run, because he’s the hero and heroes don’t run. That’s standard in most adventure films. And again, the was no risk of even one universe being destroyed, let alone two (because two weren’t even involved.)

          7. Yes, the best film of 2009, UNLESS you have no brain at all and can’t even follow along a basic plot because you have the attention span of a 5 year old.

In summary, you FAIL, both in your complaints and your ability to comprehend a plot more involved than the Carebear movie.

Scratch that- you probably didn’t get that one either.

          • charro says:

Point of order, the alternate timeline theory has been used in Trek before as well. “Yesterday’s Enterprise” and “All Good Things..” come to mind. Hell, even “First Contact” briefly hit on it.

            • roa says:

And Voyager in “The Year of Hell”. For that matter, Voyager used it a lot. So much that in the series an advanced time ship from the future of the federation told them to stop messing with the time line.
If you want realism, you’re watching the wrong series. For the enjoyment of all, I highly recommend Voltaire’s “USS make stuff up” (youtube it.) It sums up the general theme of Star Trek attitude. ^_^

              • roa says:

And don’t forget all the alternate timeline nonsense with Enterprise.

                • charro says:

I didn’t watch Voyager or Enterprise.

                  • Rando the Awesome says:

I stopped watching after Next Generation. DS9 didn’t really do much for me either.

                    • charro says:

I watched DS9 for the first three seasons or so.. Then I gave up. After that, apparently, is when it got cool.

                      • Lili says:

After that is when they stole writers from B5 and instead of being a serial of standalone episodes (typical Trek), DS9 began to have arcing storylines. So, yes, it got cool and it got very interesting, and that’s why I was so, so very disappointed with Voyager. I watched three or four episodes of Enterprise and I just couldn’t help wondering where Dean Stockwell was, at which point I had to stop watching because obviously it wasn’t enough to interest me :(

          • paws4thot says:

            (3) The terms “different dimensions” is sometimes used to denote alternate timelines. Like the “Mirror Universe” being regarded as existing in a different timeline to The Original Series through DS9 (and I suppose Enterprise, bit it’s out of chronological order anyway).

          • slythwolf says:

Andromeda also sort of used the black hole time thing, but that was also Roddenberry so I’m not sure it counts.

          • sci-fi lover girl says:

#5 is confusing- i thought that if you went into a black hole you got reduced to the size of a spaghetti string and died

            • paws4thot says:

No-one actually knows for sure what will happen, but I think the time travel theory involves doing a close flyby outside the event horizon without being torn apart by the differential gravity field across your body (usually referred to as the gravitational tide), a bit like in the pilot of Andromeda (which might have been a good show if Girly Woose had let them concentrate on the interesting characters and story-lines, like Trance Gemini).

              • sci-fi lover girl says:

                uh, english please?

                • paws4thot says:

That is English; If you want a more involved and/or mathematical explanation, try “A Brief History of Time” by Stephen Hawking.

Well, except for “Girly Woose” which is what everyone I know calls Kevin Sorbo. Think of the way he behaves both as Hercules and as Dylan Hunt, particularly things like the hair flicks, and you’ll can translate it for yourself.

        • Scyphir says:

          Do you need a hug?

  2. Rob says:

What’s with the knock on Shatner? Boston Legal > anything Nimoy has ever done. And Heroes, for that matter.

    • Zaphodb2002 says:

Nope. Nimoy was Galvatron. That’s better than Boston Legal. I like Shatner though, don’t get me wrong.

    • Lili says:

Leonard Nimoy’s appearances on “The Simpsons” are hilarious:

Bart: Leonard Nimoy! What are you doing here?

Nimoy: Wherever there is mystery and the unexplained, cosmic forces will draw me near.

Hot Dog Guy: Hey, Spock, whaddya want on your hot dog?

      Nimoy: Surprise me.

Read his books, look at his photography, enjoy. I won’t say that Boston Legal is better than anything Nimoy has done, because he and Shatner are from two different acting worlds. Shatner has his own appeal (his cover of “Common People” cracks me up).

  3. Pepper says:

    Zachary Quinto’s five o’clock shadow. :)

  4. Mao says:

    Both fully tappable.

YES I’M AWARE HE COULD BE MY GRANDFATHER SHUT UP SHUT UP LALALALALALALALALA

  5. Quarxyz says:

    Leonard Nimoy ftw!

  6. roa says:

I’ve loved Spock since I was 5 years old and my dad introduced me to to the series in anticipation of the next generation.

    • sci-fi lover girl says:

OMG Spock is so awesome! I saw the movie from netflix that came out in ’09 and then searched for the original series on youtube. i’ve been watching the old episodes they r so good!

  7. Roh says:

Thank you, creator, for saying “interplanetary,” not “intergalactic!”

    • Smitty says:

      intergalactic / planetary …planetary / intergalactic …what’s the difference? :)

      • Lazureus Falcone says:

The difference is that one is the travel to planets in one galaxy, the other is the travel to other galaxies.. ST only travels to planets in one galaxy… hence Interplanetary and not Intergalactic.

  8. walking chrome toaster says:

and he will eat your brains!

  9. gardenbuzzy says:

    He’s beside himself!

  10. Sarcastic Moron says:

Okay I have to say this. Nimoy’s pointing his finger. Does anyone get the feeling that he’s gonna go Sylar and chop off soemone’s scalp?

  11. Sarcastic Moron says:

Okay, I have to say this. Does anyone else get the feeling that Nimoy’s gonna go “Sylar” and chop someone’s scalp off and absorb their powers?

I mean come on look at his finger!

  12. vandalfan says:

Nimoy’s new, improved teeth kind of give me the creeps. Check out his originals in the re-runs. Then again, those kind of gave me the creeps, too.

  13. Yanis says:

    isn`t it Le(o)nard

  14. heather says:

Do not mock the Spock or he’ll steal your brain.

  15. boov says:

    i shatnered my pants.

  16. Wjho says:

Whos the guy on left? And also is Leonard Nimoy still alive?

nvm I just realized that its the guy from Heroes.

    • Mary says:

Dude did you just come out of a rock? :P

    • with_Apostrophe says:

Well, he was alive when I met him last year. Having not heard of his death, I’m fairly confident that he’s still alive. And he’s not that old – approaching his 79th birthday.

Nimoy and Quinto. Both made of awesome.

  17. kookooforcocopuffs says:

the newest spock is rather hot!

  18. Emily says:

    F**k.
This is the single most epic image in the history of the world, move over Mona Lisa, I’ll pay the Louvre to display this baby! Add Chris Pine in there and wammo, and artistic take on my fantasy.

    -=-=-=-=-=–=-=-

    TREKKIE GIRLS FTW

  19. Lazureus Falcone says:

And the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins is just epic.

  20. roa says:

The fact that he loves Tolkien enough to do this only makes me love him more.
