To be fair, the government won’t give the monkeys the giant stoppers they need to get the job done.

  8. Azkyroth says:

As usual, the problem here is managers who ignored warnings from their engineers about serious safety issues and should be shot, and engineers who didn’t have enough backbone to shoot the managers after they ignored said warnings.

  9. Anne Onymous says:

But they weren’t BP engineers… they were Transocean engineers.

If you hop in a taxi to get from A to B and the steering column breaks causing a serious accident, are you to blame? No, the driver or company that maintains and leases the car is to blame.

BP leased the Horizon from Transocean – it was run and maintained by their people. They should be the ones catching the flak for this.

In fact, if you look them up, Transocean have a record of oil-related catastrophes dating back decades. They have in fact been cited for poorly-maintained blow-out preventers before (Transocean Rather, August 2005).

But of course it’s more convenient for Obama to keep directing people towards British Petroleum, rather than admit that the incident is actually the fault of the US arm of a Swiss company.
