I’ve had issues with that General Failure in the past. He can be a tricky bloke!

  2. Zadkiel says:

    It’s “THE DOCTOR”!

  3. Just some chick says:

I love how the more people complain about Doctor Who posts, the more Doctor Who posts we get.
Thumbs up, Roflrazzi… though I wish they would realize the “Doctor Who” is the name of the show and the character is just “The Doctor.”

  4. whovian says:

Anyone else notice there are quite a few Doctor Who related posts of late? *sighs contentedly* and no complaint on my part.

    • KC says:

I certainly haven’t been complaining! Seeing The Doctor (or anything Tennant related) on here every day is like a minor holiday that you still get out of school for!

  5. K says:

He’s reading it because you’re HOT.

Hmm. You know, I haven’t heard of Doctor Who until a few years ago – it’s never been aired in my country. I’ve been thinking for a while about watching it, mostly for the language – my current English sounds awfully American. Ofc I can appreciate a good sci-fi show, as well as good-looking British men… I don’t own a TV, and AFAIK it’s still not aired anywhere in my country anyway, so I guess that leaves me downloading from the internet… however, I have no idea where to start watching, I mean it’s been on for 26 seasons apparently… are the oldies any good?
Also, the releases on thepiratebay.org keep referring to the show as being on from 2005, and the most recent season is identified as Season 5. What’s the deal with that?

    • TheFoot says:

Series 5 (as in series 5 from the first of the modern series that began in 2005) or it can be called series 31 if you include the classic series before it went off the air back around ’89… or you can call it series ‘Fnarg’ to basically say who cares what series it is, its Doctor Who thats all you need to know :P .

And yes id say definitely give the early years a go, I grew up with reruns on weekends and week days starting with a few Troughton episodes around the age of 4 then right into Pertwee, never stopped watching till it went off the air.

Definitely watch a few from each Doctors era, and you cant go past starting with the first man himself William Hartnel in the very first episode ‘The Unearthly Child’, Id also go with The Tenth Planet (first regeneration, and first run in with the Cybermen), and ‘The Daleks’ (first time the Daleks pop up) from the first Doc, and maybe even the Dalek Invasion of Earth.

Id definitely do the ‘Tomb of the Cybermen’ and ‘the Mindrobbers’ and ‘the Wargames’ (introduces the Time Lords) from the second Doctor.

hell really… to many good ones really to mention some you’ll like, others not so much, others are complete television gold, some Doctors you’ll love, others you might thumb your nose at (I like number 6 myself, but alot of people cant stand him)… and do your best to switch off any criticism of the shows now extremely clunky VFX in your head. Those of us who grew up at the time with it find this easier to do since its padded with nostalgia.

If you cant stand to watch men in old rubber monster suits like in the original series of Star Trek or Land of the Lost etc then you might find it real hard to do with the classic series Doctor Who.

But above all, do it… youre in for a ride. If you find it hard to get access to Classic series Who, there is always youtube they have the odd complete story up, and also remeber that a large number of the classic (Doc 1 & 2) were wiped by the BBC in their great wisdom decades ago, so some stories are still lost, or some missing episodes. Although all the audio still survives for virtually all of them.

Also dont forget the Big Finnish Audio series, while not cannon quite a few are very good listening and theres lots of em for most of still living Doctors including the 8th from the TV movie.

Each season of “Classic Who” consists of a number of 2 to 6 episode serials, and each season of “New Who” of a number of 1 or 2 part episodes. Within any season there may (probably is with New Who) an arc plot that builds across the season, but doesn’t continue between seasons.

Later seasons may re-use monsters and/or guest characters from earlier seasons, but not so much so much so that you need to recognise then to make sense of a plot.

If you’re going to start with New Who, I’d start with its season 1, starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper. If you start with Old Who, I’d suggest doing a bit more research and starting with a “new Doctor”, who always appears in the first episode of a season.

Also, I’d agree with “The Foot”, except that I reckon you have got to watch “Dr Who and the Daemons” (note spelling), which is one of the early UNIT stories with Nicolas “5 rounds rapid” Courtney in it (and IMO woth seeing for him alone, never mind the classic combination of John Pertwee as the Doctor and Katy Manning as his assistant [Jo Grant]).

Happy to help here….. to watch every episode from the pilot back in 1963 on, just go here: (www.doctorwho-episodes.com)

    • tyberius says:

Thanks, everyone, that cleared up my confusion about the seasons. I think I’ll start with the oldies then. Unfortunately, I’m a big sucker for fancy visual effects, so I guess I’ll just have to forget about that and concentrate on the story. Also, I’m gonna have to finish Arrested Development first, but now I know what I’m gonna watch next… Thanks again!

  7. bajio6401 says:

tyberius, the original Doctor Who was on for decades and was cancelled, I believe, in the early 1990′s (if I’m wrong, someone will correct it). I had heard that in the mid to late 90′s they tried to bring it back with no success. Then, in 2005, they tried again and it really caught on. So the 5 seasons referred to now are the seasons since the restart in 2005. The older Doctor Who’s are good, even though some of them can look a little cheezy with the fx.

    • Gembird says:

It was cancelled in the late 1980s, but otherwise, yes :) The film with Paul McGann is the Eighth Doctor was intended to bring back the series, I think.

  8. Cthulhu says:

Lol, General Failure! im going to use that as my new name from now on!

  9. tash says:

LOVING all the new doctor who pics!!!

  10. bee says:

    Doctor Who is so sh!tty.
Atleast throw in some more Potter pics or ANYTHING else

    • beezlebub says:

Well you obviously have no sense of humour. And, since Doctor Who is, in essence, very British, we’ll thank you to shut up.

Hey, here’s an idea for you! If you don’t like Doctor Who, why not just *ignore* it?

    • KG says:

So, you want more Potter? Well, I hate to comply with somone who doesn’t understand the awesomeness of Doctor Who, but I’m sure something could be arranged, just for you; may I suggest Barty Crouch, Jr.?

  11. Stefernie says:

    LOL

That’s something the Doctor would say.

  12. daniel-chan says:

When 900 years old you get to be, very confused by technology you will become.

  13. Frank says:

That joke is just about as old as The Doctor himself…
