  1. Patrick says:

Importance to plot, 2, for Lupin? Not sure how that was calculated, but Lupin seems more important than that to me, considering everything he taught harry.

    • Shatora says:

agreed hes at least a 4 but i guess this sod is going by movie only and not the books

      • Logic says:

Hence the blurb’s mention that he’s “more important to the seven books as a whole” than his role in the movie where he was the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor… which is what this graphic cares about.

        • Kin says:

Then it stands to reason that Snape should’ve gotten a lower score, given that rationale.

          • Scarred4life says:

Snape is one of the most important characters in the Half Blood Prince. They are going by their importance in the book they were Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher.

            • Eddy says:

Lupin taught the patronum spell to Harry, and that saved Sirius Black’s life in that movie’s end, besides Harry’s own a couple of times and he also saved Harry at the beginning of the movie, in the train, besides he being the whole reason for the shrieking shack and the tree, where the whole climax of the story happened, so Lupin’s importance to the story IS bigger than a 2.

              • Eddy says:

Oh, and I forgot, it was partially due to Lupin that Sirius got inside the castle a couple of times, which, by itself, moved the plot a little bit.

              • Where wolf? says:

While you are correct about the Shrieking Shack earning its nomenclature because of Lupin, this tidbit was never covered in the movie – a difference already addressed.

However, Lupin most certain brought more to the plot than a 2, so we agree there.

            • Ish Kabibble says:

The problem is you really only see Snape in one scene in the movie as DADA instructor.

    • ursineoddity says:

uh…are we forgetting a little something called “expecto patronum”? Lupin taught that to Harry, and i’d wager it is a spell he may not have learned otherwise, certainly not from any of the other dark arts teachers. that’s pivotal to the plot of the books AND movies.

  2. Shanaynay Billprop says:

ya like i totes agree! i like totes cant wayt to like c da movie! im like soooooo exited!!! yey for harry potter!

  3. Frokandra Dill says:

HALP ME I CANT TERN OF MAI CAPS LOCK! HOW DO I FICKS IT? HOW DO I TERN OF THE INTERNET? HALP MEEE!!

  4. ms.palm says:

Snape is an automatic WIN in everything. I mean *everything*. _<)

  5. The Exterminator says:

He refers to them as “the movies”. Really?

  6. Sarah says:

    SNAPE WINS ALL

  7. lilbug121 says:

you know, every DADA teacher harry ever had tried to attack him. Lochheart w/ the memory charm, Lupin when he forgot to take the wolfsbane potion, and everyone else was just working for Voldemort. Snape attacked George-Harry during the 7 potters scene, but he didnt know if it was the real Harry or not, so he counts too even though he (SPOILER) turned out to be a good guy

    • Hammockguy says:

It’s not a spoiler if anyone who can read knows that [unintelligible babbling about Harry Potter 7's plot] and that’s how you make gravy

    • Ish Kabibble says:

I am still convinced that if we peeled back the sleeve on Umbridge’s sweater we would have seen the “Dark Mark”! I am also convinced that she was really a Muggle-born who convinced the Sorting Hat to allow her into Slytherin. This follows character of someone violently trying to ignore what they consider a flaw in their own background and show contempt and hatred for it, like Hitler and the Jews. That force of will would probably have overcome Salazar Slytherin’s refusal to teach Muggle-borns (although he would teach Halfbloods) that normally kept Muggles out of Slytherin.
Frankly, if JK wanted to write more about a dark wizard, Umbridge would be the ideal character. Flesh her out with a story line that would include something like deceased parents and being raised by an Aunt. Arranging the Aunt’s death so she could inherit the property at age 17 (per Wizarding Law) and proceeding to erase all record of her Muggle heritage, coming up with her claim of relationship to an old branch to the Selwyn family (per book 7), that could not be denied by any living member of that family! This would give her a background similar to Harry’s and Riddle’s as far as birth-family dynamic, but would make her character more sinister!
Conversely, I would like to see a back story on the Auror, John Dawlish, showing he was an undercover agent recruited by Shacklebolt sometime before the end of book 6. This would establish why he appeared to be susceptible to stunning and Confundus spells allowing people like Ted Tonks and Augusta Longbottom to “escape” when arrested by him. They could also show that he assisted others to escape capture from various snatcher teams. Sorry, but I always felt that Dawlish was an underdeveloped character who was a better man than JK made him appear.

  8. Wolverine Girl says:

    Ditto

  9. kurisu7885 says:

I consider Umbridge the worst personally since she went for torturing kids.

  10. maybelolcat says:

I think Cho Chang did a damn fine job of driving a wedge between herself and Harry, not Umbridge. The entire time she acted like a whiny clingy lead-him-on rebound/ego boost after Cedric died and she kept pumping Harry for information about the whole horrific mess.

  11. Emma says:

Snape. Snape Snape Snape all the way. He is my favourite character from the whole series without a doubt :D

  12. Gembird says:

Hahaha, I like how in any list of HP characters ever, Snape wins.

Also Umbridge makes me want to punch things. Preferably her face.

  13. HarryPotter says:

Why in the world does Lockhart have a rank of 4 in strength of character? He is weak as a wizard, weak in moral fiber, weak as teacher, weak in really every aspect except he can write and he can cast a really good memory wipe. Everything he is credited with doing was stolen from someone else. Just because he can command a room when he speaks about his fake accomplishments doesn’t mean he has strength of character. I agree some and disagree some with the other rankings but this specific thing makes me feel that the person who came up with this hasn’t seen the movies or read the books and just looked at a summary from a movie review or wikipedia about the characters. His strength of character should be a 1. This isn’t an opinion but a definitive fact.

    • Manderin says:

Actually, they said STRENGTH of character. Not CONTENT of character. Who Lockhart actually is is very strong. Very definite. He’s not wishy-washy about anything. He IS the greatest and everyone should acknowledge that! (In his own mind, at least.)

  14. Eddy says:

For me, Lockhart comes above Quirrel for comedic effect and being Kenneth Branagh, but besides that, I agree in everything!

  15. GIRSDOOMETTE says:

    YAY TENNANT!!!!!!!

    • Ish Kabibble says:

Except Tennant did not play in any of the Moody scenes! Only as Barty Jr. in the opening “dream” sequence, the trial sequence, and the revelation after Snape dumped the Vertiaserum down “Moody’s” throat.

  16. GIRSDOOMETTE says:

Snape, Snape, Severus Snape, Snape, Snape, Severus Snape. *DUMBLEDORE!!!!!*

  17. Catnip says:

    I, honestly agree with Patrick.

  18. DAL3K says:

I quite agree! And Lupin is one of the best…. i guess they are only basing this on the movie, because i think that ultimately, he works out as a very important character, providing both a legit link to the parents that harry is missing his whole life, and a fatherly figure before sirius entered his life. He not only teaches harry the patronus charm, but creates someone harry can go to for advice and to learn skills from that prove to be priceless later in the story. In my opinion he should be worth more than that. However, i think that pretty much everything else is correct….. Snape is AWESOME!!!!!! =P

  19. estelgreenleaf says:

Lupin’s relevance to part is WAAAAAAYYYY more then a 2! Aren’t we forgetting Expecto Patronum? apart from that I agree, Snape is awesome, but I think Lupin should be a close second.

  20. sirou says:

okay lupin should get a 4 – importance to plot since he’s the one who taught him the patronus charm … but well

I AGREE THAT SEVERUS SNAPE IS THE BEST

  21. sirou says:

but i also like kenneth branagh ; )
