Welcome to another edition of Cinema del Grande Gatto. (Yeah, poor Italian grammar, but we already made the banner and everything.) I’m Grande Gatto here again to take you through this week’s theatrical releases. All two of them.

“The Hangover Part II:” Here’s an interesting fact: in order to remind you that this movie is in fact a sequel and not a remake, the word “again” is spoken at least once in every scene. For example, “I can’t believe we ran a once funny premise into the ground… again.”

“Kung Fu Panda 2:” We have just received word that some people are still able to put up with Jack Black. A spokesman from Dreamworks says the company is shocked and plans to rectify the situation with a film containing an hour and a half of the actor making fat jokes and doing that weird smirking face.
There you have it, the two movies appearing at your local theater this weekend. But which one should you see? Well… is “The King’s Speech” still playing? I heard that was okay.

I put my vote for Kung Fu Panda 2. Exceeds the first; all around great.
I fear i’d leave the theater with “Awesome” fatigue. I’m already getting it from the commercials, and i already have “-ness” fatigue, and am working on “epic” fatigue.
Oh come now. The first was quite the well-rounded movie. These newest trailers are aimed at the children, but all reviews so far have confirmed that #2 is just as enjoyable as the first, and contain the full range of action and emotions. It’s not really a feature-length film filled title to credits with butt jokes and Jack Black-isms. I’d say give it a chance.
I agree that the review is not a fair assessment of Kung Fu Panda 2. I think it might be a smidge more in the action department and less in the philosophy of life sort of way–thus perhaps doing a touch more pandering to its target audience–but it’s still a very smart movie, that is I think even more beautifully rendered this time around, and is very touching.
If there are fat jokes, it is because they are easy to make (he’s a panda), and one of the tried and true rules of writing jokes for kids is that kids will laugh at fat jokes. Kids will ALWAYS laugh at fat jokes.
There are more than two movies appearing at my local theater this weekend.
…no one seems to be defending Hangover 2. This amuses me.
Is the entire purpose of the stupid Grande Gatto thing to bash movies and say every single one is terrible? Pretty pointless, if you ask me…
Personally, if I had to choose between the two, I’d say I’d go to the Hangover, just because if I’m going to waste money on stupid humor I might as well get some raunch factor for it. I’m a Galifianakis fan anyway…
