No, FAIL. Marriage is ONE MAN, ONE WOMAN. No amount of man’s redefining and repackaging can change what God created. His truth never changes, and the definition of marriage can never change. People need to stand for REAL marriage and stop trying to normalize perverted, unnatural lifestyles. In the end, it’s only God’s standards and God’s truth that will matter. Yes, there were polygamous relationships in the Bible, but that was also a deviation from the original plan.
And the gay activists need to go look in the mirror. Try looking up the videos of how they react to peaceful protestors. That is NOT tolerance. It’s hate, plain and simple. Christian witness is done out of love, and we do not hate anyone. But the gay activists do. Tolerance should go both ways.
this has to be one of the most ignorant posts i’ve read on this site. if you don’t believe that men should marry men or women should marry women, no one is forcing you to. but who are you (and who is the government) to say that two people of the same sex that love one another cannot have the same legal rights as two people that love one another and are of opposite sexes?
if god were so opposed to gays, then why did he create them that way? and before anyone tells me that it is a choice i must point out that there has been documented cases of homosexuality in numerous animals that do not have the brain power and necessary thought patterns to “choose” to engage in sexual acts with the same sex. they follow their instincts and nothing more. additionally, if humans “choose” to be homosexual, many of them must be masochists because i know i wouldn’t willingly subject myself to ignorant people telling me how “wrong” i am.

legal rights are different than a religious ceremony and a definition. If marriage wasnt essentially a piece of paper given to people with a passing fancy for each other after knowing each other for 5 minutes then marriage would mean more to the heterosexuals. If all gays want (which it isnt but lets play pretend for a minute) is the same legal rights as married couples we can have a contract written up to say that they can be considered joined for tax purposes and purposes of power of attorney… Doesnt make it marriage but its something equal to marriage from a legal definition. But they want to get MARRIED… why? because it pisses off people who disagree with their lifestyle. They arent interested in legal rights they just want to poke their thumb (or some other appendage) in the eye of the people that disagree with them.
I know a few gay couples that got married because they loved each other, they didn’t do it to piss people off. I mean I don’t see how you can piss off a whole lot of people who don’t like it unless you’re on the news or something. It’s not like they went around shouting in the streets that they were gay and getting married. Sure, you could draw up contracts and legal documents and some actual do go through that. But there are certain things that you can’t get unless you are actually married to some one.

The flaw in your thinking is that you’re still thinking that you have to be attracted to a person have sex with them. What you have to understand is that r*pe and sex are different. There was a man who broke into a woman’s home and violated her, she was over 70 years old and this man had never been particularly attracted to any member of the geriatric community before. You also have to realize that you can sexually assault some one without the aid of the male genitalia.

Alright, try this one on then. I’m Buddhist, and have no relationship at all with the Judeo-Christian God or any of his religions. I’m United States citizen. What business does that god have telling me who I can and cannot legally marry under the laws of my government?
See, there it is, the laws of the government. Marriage it self does not have to be defined under the laws of God. This country wanted to keep church and state separate but they never seem to do that. There are so many things in this country that contradict that. If gay marriage is legal, no one is going to force any church or any person to marry two people of the same sex if they don’t want to or that doesn’t believe that gay people should get married.
On a side note, if gay marriage is legal, they aren’t going to teach anything about homosexuality in any elementary school or anything like that. That’s the main reason why prop 8 passed, there were a lot of people who didn’t really care if homosexuals got married but they didn’t want their children taught about gays in school.
So let me get this straight…If I refuse to believe in God, then I can do what ever makes me feel good? Who says that gays and lesbians are atheists? Most gays and lesbians I know attend church and believe in God. If you have actually read the story of Sodom & Gomorrah, you’ll know it wasn’t about homosexuality being wrong. It is about inhospitality. Back in those times, gay sex was seen as an act of domination. The man “on top” was seen as the one in control, and his partner was seen as “the woman”. When the men in the city of Gomorrah wanted Abraham to bring out his guests so they could rape them, it was meant as a threatened act of degradation and humiliation. In the Bible, Jesus, the son and essentially the mouthpiece of God, told people to be kind and respectful to one another. Anyone who has actually read the story of Sodom & Gomorrah knows that it was Sodom’s history as a crime-ridden, hostile place that led to it’s destruction.

I would simply like to point out that not all christian protesters of gay marriage use love, in fact, quite a few of them are downright hateful. If you honestly believe that each and every Christian on earth protests peacefully with tolerance, then how about the ones who protest at funerals? But just to be clear I’m not saying that all christians are violent, intolerant protesters. Some are just as you described, and I know that. What I’m saying is that you can’t make a broad generalization about a group of people whether it’s a positive one or a negative one. Human beings are just too diverse to categorize like that.
So, in other words, just because a group of people have the same ideas as you it doesn’t mean that they’re all good people. And just because there’s another group that you don’t belong to doesn’t mean that they’re all heartless. I am often disgusted when those who have the same faith or nationality as me do hateful, intolerant things, and personally, I don’t like to be grouped in with some of them.

I have to agree, my friend said he couldn’t ever love just one woman/man, and I think people should be given the right to marry as many as they can support financially. I prefer one woman in my life, but that doesn’t mean everyone should just settle for one especially since there’s a lot of people who are capable of loving many. And I think that’s amazing.

I also agree though, as long as no one is being forced into a union or is under the legal age of consent I don’t have a problem with Polygamy. Oh I’m sorry, I mistyped. I should have been writing legal age because when you’re under the age of eighteen you cannot enter into a legal contract, like marriage. In some states if you’re sixteen you can legally get married to a twenty year old with the signed consent of your parents. I grew up in Washington and the age of consent is sixteen but the person you are with can only be two years older than you.
There’s a big difference between consenting adults and children.

They created the social security program that costs about 1/4 of our 3.8 trillion dollar budget now less than 100 years later
they created the medicare program that is costing us about 15% of our 3.8 trillion dollar budget
They have just last year set up a medical law that will force health insurance companies out of business and make it cheaper for business owners to pay a fine (unconstitutional btw) rather than offer their employees health care. But hey dont worry about that they are phasing that in over 10 years….
Their platform always sounds lovely but it ends up in a huge overbearing government dictating who can do what and how much they will make doing it…

Well, the world has been working on this for the last 10 – 15 years now with the USA trailing behind so about time.

I hate it that in my country one political party got to CHOOSE which other political parties should come to the goverment (because of some confusion after the people’s election) to decide our countries things. And they took one crazy religious-party with them, and that religious-party had only one demand: no gay-marriage or gay-adoptionright discussions as long as they are there deciding. So even though maybe over half of the crazy and stupid fellow country-men were ready for gay-rights, it’s not going to happen until the next election. And that’s horrifying how slowly things change for the better.

Congratulations, you have figured out the gay agenda, yep, that’s right, that’s all gay people want to do, flounce around and cause scene that’s what they’re here for. I’m not going to argue that some homosexuals revel in scene causing but most of the gays I know are just people, they just live their lives and that is that. The ones that are married didn’t do it to laugh in the face of straight people who didn’t think they should be married, they did it for the same reason that many straight people get married. Come to think of it, I’ve known straight people to get married, not because they loved the person they were with but because they just thought it was “time to get married”. No really, for serious, they didn’t really WANT to get married they just thought they should. I don’t know many, or really any gay couples that got married for that reason. None of them got married just for “funnsies” and to piss of the straight and religious community. When they got married, they didn’t rub their hands together and laugh manically and send out little gay minions to spread the news that they were married, they didn’t take out an advert the local papers, they didn’t buy air time on the radio or television to broadcast the ceremony live via satellite.
But hey, that’s your opinion and you have a right to that.

I am an atheist, and I find this unfair. Religion makes some people happy, and helps them make sense of an otherwise unjust and chaotic world. It’s when they throw their religions in the faces of others that it becomes a problem, and when we insult their religions as a form of retaliation. Live and let live.

It makes me sad as a Christian to see so many ignorant comments made by other Christians. It makes people want to lump us all together and think that all Christians hate homosexuals and appose gay marriage. As I said I AM a Christian and I am part of the HRC and believe in and support gay marriage. God loves ALL of us.
Those of us who are non-believers tend to lump you guys together sometimes, which is just as unfair as hating on gays. It can just be frustrating at times when people cite a book that was written that long ago and base their prejudices on it.

Hate is wrong, it’s just that simple. Though not everyone who is against gay marriage hates homosexuals either. Heck you got to take into account the gays that are fighting against gay marriage being legal.
I for one think this shouldn’t even be an issue. You shouldn’t have to make into a law something that should just BE.

Politicians (including Obama) like to come out and say that marriage is 1 man and 1 woman because it’s tied into religion. In that case, we logically have to then determine which religion its tied to. Is it only Christians that get to marry then? What about Atheists?
Is it only okay for all us straight people that are going to hell because they’re pretending to be like you? It’s okay for a sinner to marry Bubbles the Stripper in Vegas at two in the morning for the same reason it’s cute to watch a dog wearing people clothes?
There is no sanctity in marriage. The only sanctity comes from the people involved and their dedication to it.

Without having actually met the guy. And using gross over-exaggeration in lumping all politicians as ‘politicians’ I’d say that politicians say whatever they think will get them the most votes.
If successful in political life it isn’t until they are old and nearly dead and they write an autobiography, that you would know what they ‘think’ vs what they ‘say’.
And I have to agree with that. I just watched a video of him not too long ago of him early in his career saying he supported gay marriage. Then cut to his presidential campaign where he’s sudden against it because it offends his faith.
Which is why I mentioned him specifically in my previous post, what with it being fresh in my mind.

You know what? I’ve been married to my partner for two years now since Iowa made it legal. I don’t know if anyone else’s marriage disintegrated because of it. I don’t recall the earth splitting open and swallowing us whole. I don’t believe I received any toaster ovens for converting other little girls to dykehood. My retort to the holier-than-thous: “If you don’t want to marry someone of the same sex, don’t! No one will force you and no one will force a church and its clergy to perform a marriage ceremony.” All we want is equal treatment in the eyes of the law. Social Security benefits, healthcare rights, etc.

America isn’t fair to gays… so they should each get their own island. One for the guys and one for the women. We will give them everything they need and check on them in a 100 years. I’m sure both civilations will have flurished!
Of course they’d be fine! Many/most gay-couples have kids. If there was a gay-island I’d move there just to get away from small-minded straights and closet-gays. They’re the worst.
